Zenningmyway

Zenningmyway Your travel buddy for India. I can offer curated information for destinations in India; especially for South India. Travel tips, itineraries and more So cheers.

The idea of this page is to help travellers who are visiting India, particularly Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Goa. I am based in Cochin and Kerala is the destination for which I will be able to offer you the best possible information. Ok, there are probably hundreds of such pages. Why to follow my Page? It's because I have been in the tourism field for over two years now, and I pass on curate

d information, just simple direct information without the usual jargon and information overload found on other pages. A little bit about me; I am Girish, and I go by the nickname Popcorn because I am mercuric and super hyper active. For the past two years I have been closely working with the travel community for over two years, I am a freelance tour guide for gomowgli travels, I also manage Happy Camper a backpackers hostel in Fort Kochi (Cochin); I also have another experience/adventure tour company called Raw Adventure (We are not yet in the public domain, we just stick to bespoke tours to select travel agents; but we will be going public soon). Every day I meet at least 20-30 travellers who ask me information about India, now I wish to increase the horizon and make these information available to as many people as possible. As of now the information is mainly focused on Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Goa; but I will still be able to offer some help with Information for rest of India as well. Happy travelling

Old city old roads old cars in a new world -
I come face to face with these vintage cars on the streets of Bogotá almost every time I step out. I generally feel that there's a healthy population in Colombia that generally love these vintage cars. In fact some of these cars have a special number plate that identifies it as vintage! One day I'm gonna get my hands on one of these! Maybe I'll end up buying an old Toyota Land Cruiser which is an incredible 4X4 machine, but owing to it's notorious past of being the favourite vehicle of the Co***ne Mafias it is infamously known as the Mafia Jeep!!

In the city -
It's been a long time since I lived in a city, it's been almost 7 years since I moved out of living in big cities.
So far I've been enjoying life in Bogotá. It's a nice city to walk around or bicycle around because the roads are flat and there are well paved walk paths and dedicated bicycle paths.
My favourite pastime in Bogotá is to walk around all the neighborhood.

Boot Polish -
It is quite common to see people polishing shoes on the streets of India, particularly near bus and railway stations, court houses and such other places where the office going people frequent about. This was the first time I saw boot polishers on the streets of Colombia. This was at the town square in Tunja (Tunha)

Mule - the real workhorse! (Sorry couldn't resist the Wordplay)-
Colombia has a big agricultural sector, many of which are in mountainous areas where even the most advanced 4X4 vehicles struggle. Hence the choice of transportation in these regions are the hardy mules. The mules can carry an enormous amount of load and are very hardy and adaptable. I have only recently learnt that mules are a cross between a horse and a donkey and that mules cannot reproduce on their own. Can you imagine that centuries ago someone has the crazy idea of mating a horse and a donkey to create an altogether new animal?
On a separate note, humans who are engaged in cross border trafficking of drugs are called as drug mules and there's also a famous cocktail known as the Moscow mule.

For the past two years told me that when we go to Colombia, we should visit Murillo (pronounced Murijo) because I'm going to love it! And she was right!
There's something so magical about this small hill town, your vision is constantly blurred by the fog that seems to always engulf this place. With the slightest sunshine the cheerfully painted wooden buildings pop out and makes this place look like fairyland! On those days that the skies are clear and the sun shines really bright you can get a glimpse of the snow clad mountains in the backdrop! Just when you feel a little nip and chill in the air, you can step into one of the many cafes for a piping hot coffee or maybe a bowl of ''Agua Panela Con Queso" (The story about Agua panela is for another day)
Oh yeah! I yearn to go back to this place once again!

When the skies show up -
Most buildings in Bogotá follow a theme of architecture, which is characterized by brick clad walls. On most occasions that I've been in Bogotá, it is bleak, cold and grey, never really sunny. Just imagine how much more gloomy it would look if the buildings were grey too! I'm eternally thankful to those who decided to stick to this style of architecture!
Well today is a bright sunny day and Bogotá looks so much more cheerful ☀️

India around the world -
Found this old box of Pachouli Incense cones at Cristina's great aunt's appartment in Bogota. They have no idea from where they got it, or how old it is. The markings on the cover shows that it was made in India for Parksmith New York City, presumably an old hotel; I couldn't get an internet result for a Parksmith in New York. I haven't been able to get an internet result for the manufacturer in India either. I guess this box serves as memorial of two business enterprises that doesn't exist anymore or have undergone a name change. Probably the box is waiting it's turn to rekindle a forgotten memory from a bygone era to Cristina's great aunt who is in her 90's.

Clown on the wall -
It is quite common to see a lot of graffiti and street art in Colombia. The towns and streets are always colourful, vibrant and bustling with music, more reasons that makes me love this country. More often than not I feel that Colombia is much like India.

Super mercado -
Grocery shopping is one of my favourite things to do in Colombia. Not because I love to shop, more so because I love to see the variety of things available! Every time I visit I discover something new, sometimes I see something old that I've not seen in ages! I absolutely love the colours and the vibrant patterns and lines created by the rows and rows of things!

Making the knife shaper than the pen -
This picture was taken in, Fort Kochi India, on 4th November 2020.
Featured here is knife sharpener. He goes from place to place offing his services as a knife sharpener. The wooden frame is fitted with an old bicycle wheel connected to a foot pedal. As he steps on the pedal it spins the bicycle wheel which is connected via a belt to a grinder disk which is used to sharpen knives. As I remember, it's a routine for every household up get their knives/scissors sharpened at least once a month. He also offers his services in replacing knife handles. Apart from households his customers includes tailors, butchers, barbers and vegetable vendors. It's a delight to watch him sharpen knives as sparks fly out of the grinding stone.
