A time in the mid 1980s, when Om Beach was called Dhoni Bail (boat ground), and the only way to get there was to walk around 6 kilometres, there used to be many a tired and hungry travelers arriving at an isolated beach. It was then that a dal chawal joint came up by the side of the beach, where the founder used to serve food cooked by his grandmother, thus heralding the su
nrise of the tourism industry in Gokarna. As the tourist inflow to the pristine beach started climbing, the founder needed to name the food joint, and it was during one of his chats with the tourists that a french tourist who stayed for long suggested the name Namaste Cafe, signifying a greeting to the tourists. It was during those times that the tourist also said to the founder that the beach is in the shape of an “Om” and thence started the reference of Dhoni Bail as the ever popular Om Beach, with the name ringing across the world with the principally overseas tourists back then ...
Namaste Cafe – Evolution
What started in the mid 80s for a couple of years as a beach side shack, was in abeyance for a few years when the founder moved to Himachal to start a Namaste Cafe there. It was quite some time before he came back to Gokarna, only to find that the land that was owned by his family was sold to the Casino Group to open their five star facility Swaswara. The founder managed to convince the wonderful people owning the Casino group, to sell back a small part of the land that was sold to them. And then started the journey of Namaste Cafe as we know it today. Snuck in at the corner of the beach, catering to a dedicated base of guests from the past 25 years, who come back regularly. With Namaste Cafe ensconced well in people’s minds, the founder made a modest beginning with another property overlooking Kudle Beach, called Namaste Sanjeevini. A 4 acre green space extending right to the beach at the bottom, with a developed area of only 1 acre at the top of the hill. It was then the beachside property Namaste Samudra, followed by
