The best room at Pepper Trail might be the one you have to climb 40 feet to reach.

Its treehouses sit among the canopies of giant jackfruit trees, reached by walkways that wind through the coffee and spice plantation. From up there, birds are at eye level and the estate takes on an entirely different perspective.

Back on the ground, the 140-year-old plantation bungalow, with high ceilings, open verandas, four-poster beds and family heirlooms recall its long history.

And between the two, there is an estate to wander, a spring-fed water body to linger by and plenty of reasons to slow down.

Some places make you feel the jungle. This RARE Wildlife Lodge also takes you closer to the life that has grown around it.

The Tharu influence is easy to spot here. Courtyards echo a traditional family compound, local materials and craft run through the spaces, and the villas carry hand-smeared walls made with soil from the region. Which room you pick at Urvinkaan really comes down to how close you want to be to things.

The Estate Collection sits nearest the main house, larger rooms with stone-and-wood interiors that carry the same character as the rest of the property, a good choice if you'd rather not walk far for meals or company.

Head further out and you're in the Plantation Collection, where the forest starts to take over from the coffee, quieter, more private, built for guests who came here specifically to be left alone. The Planters Collection sits somewhere in between, closer in spirit to the working plantation itself.
