Bastar, Chhattisgarh. 1922 to 1936. Rani Prafulla Kumari Devi, who ruled this region, didn't follow British imposed policies. British decided to hand over part of Bastar, rich in iron ore reserves, to the then Nizam of Hyderabad against a hefty sum. Maharani challenged both Nizam and the British.

This episode and the Maharani's contribution to freedom struggle is described in detail in Chapter 43 in Book 2 of (https://www.amazon.in/SAFFRON-SWORDS-Book-2-Manoshi-Sinha/dp/B0B5LGY2ZY/).

Besides several literary references, further information for this story is provided by my Dharma sister Rachana Yadav Naidu (a lawyer from Chhattisgarh) after meeting the descendant of Maharani Prafulla Kumari Devi in person.

Muthu Nagaraj is a young painter who has a special knack for making pen and ink drawings come alive with his sketches of the unique boulder-strewn landscape of Hampi and the retelling of traditional legends. His cards are treasured keepsakes by our guests.
