We were awestruck when Zeenat Aman graced us with her presence.

In Zeenat ji’s words…

‘Jaisalmer is quite something.

What I can share are a few glimpses from between takes and days off (from shooting). And what a place to find yourself in. Golden sandstone, beautiful gardens and that particular quiet of Rajasthan.

After so many years on film sets, I’ve learnt that it isn’t always the scenes you remember. Sometimes it’s the place, the light, a view from a window, or a quiet moment between takes.

I have a feeling I’ll remember this place for a long time.

Bada Bagh’s story began in the 16th century, when Maharawal Jait Singh II commissioned a dam that created a reservoir, bringing water and new life to the arid landscape of Jaisalmer. After his death, his son Maharawal Lunkaran established a garden beside the reservoir and raised a memorial chhatri in his honour.

Over succeeding centuries, more sandstone cenotaphs rose upon the hill, commemorating generations of Jaisalmer’s royal family. Today, their domes and carved pillars hold the stories of a remarkable lineage.

Our signature Halwai Breakfast is a glorious cornucopia of colour, prepared by Suryagarh’s in-house traditional Indian confectioner.

Jalebis emerge hot and crisp, paranthas arrive straight from the tawa and tables fill with raj kachoris, jewel-bright mithai and bottles of sweet lassi…a joyful Indian breakfast that tastes of home and heritage.
