If you’re in Jodhpur’s old city and you haven’t peeked into Lakhara Bazaar yet, you’re missing out.
The Lakhara community gets their name from “laksha”, Sanskrit for lac, a resin that insects secrete on tree branches. This resin has been moulded into bangles for generations. Melt, roll, shape, stud with mirrors and stones. All hands. No machine. The technique hasn’t changed in centuries and honestly, why would it? It is perfection.
Go, sit down at one of the small shops, watch one get made in front of you, and buy a set. That’s the whole plan.
