Pedong, meaning in Bhutia dialect a "Place abounding in Incence Fir Trees", is a consecrated name for inhabitants. Nestled placidly amidst lush green vegetation of the eastward sloping lap of historic Damsang Fort rigde, Pedong has long history of its unveiling as Kalimpong has its credit. Pedong is situated 21 kms away from Kalimpong town, having an altitude of 1233 ft from sea level. The better known history of pedong dates back to the second half of the 19th century onlywhen Kalimpong was integrated to the British Sikkim, i.e. Darjeeling hill tract, as a result of the Anglo-Bhutan war of 1864.
