THE STORY BEHIND BAEVU 🌿
It began with a dream — to bring back the warmth and charm of a traditional rural home. Shashidhar sir, a civil engineer and entrepreneur, and his wife Sandhya mam, a horticulturist and landscape contractor, always wanted to recreate the ancestral home Sandhya grew up cherishing.
In 2008, along with renowned architect Georg Leuzinger, they discovered a piece of degraded land at the foot of a granite monolith, bordering the Bantamari forest. What looked like just neem shoots and rocky slopes held a vision only they could see.
What followed was a decade-long journey — testing rammed earth walls by hand, sourcing coconut palms for roofing, reviving forgotten craftsmanship, and working alongside local artisans to recreate the timeless thottimane style homes of the region.
Joined later by their daughter Sitara, a hospitality graduate, the family turned this dream into reality — and that's how Baevu was born. 🏡✨
