WIP: WW Community Centre πŸ’›
It’s been a while, but here’s a little update from our Community Centre (CC). The roof is finally up, the colours are coming alive, and the space already feels amazingly cool inside. πŸ’“

The long, wide spans of the roof are really starting to define the space β€” making it feel open, airy, and perfect for bringing people together πŸ™Œ

Progress has been a bit slow β€” and intentionally so. We’re building this with the help of local hands, without a contractor, guided entirely by our site manager, Mr. Pandit and our architect Ata and team 😎
There’s still a lot more to be done, but we’re getting there β€” slowly, steadily, and with a lot of heart ❀️

Roof detail: Mangalore tiles, laid in double layers to keep the space naturally cooler 🌿

Tree pruning workshop.

A couple of our community members and staff attended a tree pruning workshop, held at and taught by .jadhav and .

The venue was such a soul satisfying place! A literal food forest! It was heartwarming to see all the chemical and pesticide free food being grown there, which gets cooked into nutritious food for children receiving treatment for cancer.

We had a wonderful time of learning and immediately applying our learning too!

Originally slated to be from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, we went on till after 3:00 pm and we didn't even realise the time went by!

The informative booklet is a keeper for sure!

The ones who missed it, keep a look out for the next one, and make sure you attend it!!

Yesterday was the first time our community members and all our staff went on an outing to to attend a snake awareness workshop.

We travelled to Karjat and spent the whole morning till lunch time having myths, fears and superstitions debunked by the audience friendly Sarpmitra Shyam Kadav from Neral.

All who attended, came away having learned the basics of

1. What to do so you don't encounter a snake.
2. What to do if you do encounter one.
3. What to do in case the encounter results in the rare instance of getting bitten. That's usually because (we will go so far as to say this) when steps 1 & 2 were not followed carefully.πŸ˜…

While this matter is definitely not one to be taken lightly, we learned that it is wrong to approach it with fear. The right approach is to understand and accept that they are very much our neighbours, in fact, and we will use these often repeated words (we are the ones who've moved into their neighborhood)πŸ˜…

Each of our staff members now has a copy of this booklet that will help increase awareness of their family members and neighbours and will hopefully result in better treatment of snakes..

We are grateful to for sharing his extensive knowledge and experience with us, and for patiently answering all our questions.

Thank you Elvis Almeida, for your efforts in organising this event for the tasty food you served us.

We look forward to collaborating and learning from each other more, in the days to come, once we are fully functional!

Our newest community member joined us 2.5 months ago.

Without answering the mandatory questionnaire or any of the rigorous vetting that potential members are required to go through! In fact her being added was a source of much celebration for the whole community!

2.5 months later, she visited Whispering Waters. She touched base at all the parts that comprise Whispering Waters, keenly taking all that she saw and heard.

Being her first time here, she had much to experience and seemed to be soaking it all in.

The look of our mandav also changed, because of her visit!

Suddenly there was a nappy drying hanger dancing away the warm breeze.. "Nappy?" Yes, you read right.

Did we miss mentioning that she is a baby? πŸ€” Yeah! A baby who is already following zero waste principles, thanks to her parents' commitment to them! 😁

Say hello to Malti, and 's first born.

The baby of our community!

Do comment and send some love and your best wishes her wayπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Last weekend, our community left Whispering Waters, with their share of the produce that our food-forest-in-the-making had for us.

We took home Pandan, curry and multivitamin leaves, longevity and brazilian spinach, banana stem, hibiscus flowers, long pepper, and ridge gourd.

Over the week, our members came up with very interesting recipes using it.

Quite a few ingredients are new to most of us, but that didn't hinder anyone...

We have taken baby steps on the path of eating what we grow.

Whispering Waters is excited to showcase a sample of what our community cooked over the week..

Can you tell that we are slowly and steadily preparing to let people into our space?

To get to know the land and all that it supports, better? To rest, rejuvenate and be revived?

To watch, butterflies and dragon flies flit by and may id or sketch them?

To hear and differentiate between bird calls either from memory or by using an app?

To sit in the middle of a stream and enjoy the sounds of the water as it swirls all around you?

Or maybe kayak out into the middle of the backwaters and be still, taking in all the beauty around you.

Maybe not 😁

But truth be told.. we are.. but *only* to people who will respect and love our spaces as we do.

We are preparing... curating resources so our visitors can have wonderful discovery moments!

Any recommendations of resources we could add to our library?

Do tell us, in the comments and we'd be happy to check them out.

You will know when we're ready.

So keep an eye out...and send us your best wishes 😊
