Kota Receives Heavy Monsoon Showers

The state of Rajasthan has enjoyed a rainy August as good Monsoon showers lashed the desert state on a regular basis. Several areas received continuous Monsoon showers giving the residents that much needed relief.
During the month of August, many areas even received rains over 50 mm in a span of 24 hours. These rains can be attributed to an array of Monsoon systems in the form of cyclonic circulations and Low Pressure Areas.

CESC begins power distribution in Rajasthan at Kota

Two wholly-owned subsidiaries of CESC Rajasthan Limited is formed for electricity distribution in Kota, Bharatpur for 20 years

The Rs. 17,000 crore RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, on Thursday said, it has begun its electricity distribution operation at Kota in Rajasthan.

Aniruddha Basu, managing director at The Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) said in Kota, two wholly-owned subsidiaries of CESC Rajasthan Limited have been formed for electricity distribution in Kota and Bharatpur for a period of 20 years.

According to A.N. Singh, CEO of CESC Rajasthan, the Kota distribution franchise is spread over 150 square kilometres and has 1.76 lakh registered consumers which grew seven per cent during 2014-15 as compared to the previous fiscal year.

"At Kota we will follow CESC's customer-centric initiatives to provide best-in-class services to power consumers by developing and modernising the city's distribution systems", Basu said in a statement.

Hundreds participate in Kota Kinabalu airport large-scale air crash simulation exercise

Plumes of smoke billowed from the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) runway, with bodies strewn all across the aircraft ‘crash site’ this morning. The scene, however, was just part of a full-scale air crash simulation drill conducted by the airport. The inaugural exercise, which began at 10am, saw the participation of about 800 personnel from 30 government agencies and private sectors. These include the police, Civil Aviation Department (DCA), Health Ministry, Fire and Rescue Department, Aircraft Accident Investigation bureau, Transport Ministry, Disaster Victim Identification team, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Civil Defence Department, Malaysia Red Crescent, St John Ambulance, and AirAsia, among others. The simulation saw 150 ‘injured’ passengers and 40 next-of-kin present near the crash site.

On Mother’s Day on Sunday, Kota got its first woman auto driver.

Dharmishtha Sharma, 31, whose husband left her for another woman seven years ago, raised her son on her own. Now, to ensure the best possible future for her 11-year-old, she decided to break stereotypes and became the first woman auto driver in the city.
Dharmishtha began her new life as an auto driver during the World Red Cross Day celebrations organised by the Indian Red Cross Society and the Kota auto drivers’ union at the Kota Art Gallery and ferried her first passengers after the event.
Regional transport officer Dharmendra Chaudhary, who was one of the first customers, appreciated her effort.

Rajasthan government opens centre of excellence in Kota

Aiming to give a boost to cultivation of citrus fruits in the state, the agriculture department inaugurated a centre of excellence for citrus fruits in Kota.
The cultivation will be done with technical assistance from Israel. The Kota belt has favourable conditions for the cultivation of citrus fruits. Jhalawar, which also lies on the belt, is known as Nagpur of Rajasthan because of oranges produced in district.
Kota will become epicentre for citrus fruits cultivation.

While inaugurating the Centre for excellence in Kota, chief minister Vasundhara Raje said that the oranges produced in the state will be known as Raj Santara. The centre's focus will be on producing the best quality oranges in state.
