Feudal Kerala was a jigsaw of tiny states, principalities and landholdings, creating a unique culture, architecture and way of living. It is this heritage that echoes in Coconut Lagoons dark timbers. Until a few years ago, the old 'therawads' or family homes of the area were running to seed, the landed families scattered, the craftsmen unable to make a living. We wanted not only to perpetuate this slowly vanishing world, but to bring it alive for the contemporary traveller.

A cow with a comeback story
Small, gentle and distinctly Keralam, the Vechur cow was once threatened by crossbreeding, this indigenous breed has made a remarkable return through conservation efforts by agricultural institutions in Keralam. Today, you can find these petite bovines grazing at Coconut Lagoon - a charming reminder that, with timely intervention and the right measures, even species once at risk can find their way back.
