Chalung House is a charming four bedroom premises two of which are available for your stay in Leh. The rooms have attached modern bathrooms with running hot water (solar) and are thoughtfully furnished for your comfort and convenience. The innkeeper and cook is from Gurgaon near India’s capital New Delhi and lives here for his love of the region and to escape the extreme summer heat back home. It
is nestled between agricultural fields which the owner’s family tends to with a little help from the out of town innkeeper. They produce over 20 different vegetables with dedicated fields for potatoes and onions as well as wheat. There are over a dozen trees of different varieties of apples and two of the famous Ladakhi apricot which is considered among the best worldwide. The property has a direct and open view onto the Stok range of mountains with Stok Kangri, the highest summit right in front. Though just a five minute walk from the busy and popular Fort Road, the premises has a quiet and peaceful aura. It is surrounded by similar houses with large fields around. Shenam, the area where it is located is known for its vegetable produce which comes to market earlier owing to slightly warmer temperatures compared to the rest of Leh. The rooms available for your stay are in the right wing of the premises which has a direct view on the mountains. Of the two rooms one has a window on the extreme right end of the building and affords a direct view on Stok Kangri right from the bed. Outside the rooms is a warmly furnished corridor with chairs to enjoy relaxed afternoons and evenings in between your excursions during your trip in Leh. Ladakh is a resource scarce and ecologically fragile region, and hence we are ecologically sensitive and have a few house rules, nothing that you will find too hard to comply with and are the local household practice as well. The farm stay is suitable for nature and cultural experience seekers who are looking for a non-commercial, quiet and comfortable lodging in Leh. It is especially suitable for extended stay travelers who want a home to come back to during their treks and explorations in Ladakh. Breakfast is included in all packages and is prepared to your preferences with the only limitation being the availability of ingredients in Leh. The cook is widely travelled in India, Asia and Europe and hence has an extensive repertoire of cuisines and preparations for you to choose from. As the harvest season approaches from late June onwards the fruits and vegetables from the fields are extensively used in our preparations. Lunch and dinner can be prepared as per your requirements when needed and is priced separately.
