It’s an El Niño Winter next and November is when it peaks!
Winter at Shanag is not one long white month. It is a run of sharp weeks, from 15 November to 15 April.
Some weeks the orchard is bright and dry, the glaciers sharp, and the road open. Some weeks a disturbance lands, the valley turns, and the higher snow at Solang sits close enough for a morning and back by lunch. The evenings are the constant: fire, spa, the bar, harvest on the table when the hills still have it, and the huskies, who do not care if the flake count was modest.
Plan the week for what you actually want.
Mid-November to mid-December is colour leaving and the first cold. Quiet. Good for two.
Late December through February is the winter people mean: shorter days, a real chance of snow on the ground, and the weeks that go first.
March into mid-April is the turn. Snow higher up, melt in the orchard, longer light, fewer people.
The house is small on purpose. Main chalet for a reunion. A cottage if it is just two. Once a snow week is taken, it is taken.
