We are excited to be featured in Midday .

In a city that is perennially starved of space. New Vasantashram is in a sense a pioneer in hosting myriad cultural performances. New Vasantashram continues to innovate and stay ahead of the hospitality game. Be it opening up our space for Hindustani classical baitaaks or standup comedy shows we are pushing our envelope to make this 77 year old hotel the coolest adda. This time we are exhibiting an art exhibition, “Faces” by Trishna Patnaik. A collection of paintings is on display at New vasantashram. ( ).

New Vasantashram is more than a conventional lodging & boarding hotel. We have grown into an informal cultural space. We would love to collaborate with communities of artists, performers, musicians, storytellers, poets, film makers, standup comic actors and writers.

We have had our space open up for film/web/advt/Instagram/magazine shoots. We have found much love from film directors, as our place is vintage with upcycled furniture and has the ambience of old world charm.

One such film director is Harshil Bhanushali () from Curious Comet Collective () who shot a documentary on the renowned artist 'Sudhir Patwardhan' at our premises. He shot extensively in the 10 bed dormitory, the long winding verandha amongst other nooks of the hotel.

We also have a pantry where one could arrange for snacks, tea/coffee. Importantly we are 10 minute walk from CSMT railway station (Central) as well as Marine Lines railway station (Western).

Come Sunday, Mumbai March ( marches to a different beat. It's a community of a group of citizens who first started 'River March' working towards rejuvenation of Mumbai rivers.
Under the 'Road March' banner they focus on finding solutions for the horrendous traffic congestion on Mumbai roads.
I had the opportunity to march to their beat under 'Mumbai Monsoon Masti' on successive Sundays.
Under the guidance & initiative of stalwards, Avinash Thanwani () & Gopal Jhaveri () citizens from various backgrounds explore different parts of Mumbai's unexplored & neglected richness. This is important as it generates interest & involvement of the local community. The best part of Mumbai March is this heritage () walk is free & open to everyone.

This Sunday we explored the Bazar gate (bazargate) . Started from the UNESCO () heritage CSMT railway station(), next was the MCGM () bldg, the Times of India bldg, Anjuman I Islam High School, () JJ school of Architecture and UNESCO heritage, Crawford market (). Next was walking in the bylanes of Mohammad Ali road, Nagdevi temple, Synagogue's & masjids at Pydhonie, chor bazar and ended our walk at Kamathipura, Shuklaji street, the infamous red light area of Mumbai

In the 76 years of hosting guests, has seen it all. We are more than a conventional lodging and boarding . We have innovated, restored, upcycled to meet the needs of the modern world travelers.

In the 6th of the series on 'Voices of ', we are documenting the voices of our guests as they pass through Mumbai.
New Vasantashram is one such space where the old meets the new and morphs as the city culture keeps changing.

Further studies brought Ankit Kumar (.kon ) from Patna, Bihar to Mumbai. A student of St. Xavier's college ( ), initially he stayed with friends at Thane. The long commute, packed trains pushed him to search for affordable, long stays near his college. A quick Google search brought him to New Vasantashram ( ). As any GenZ would agree, Ankit lives for the moment. The 10 bed Dormitory room with cross ventilation and the ambience is what made him continue to stay longer. You will find him at the workstation bonding with other long timers and making new friends.

VJTI campus is a hop away from my residence. I jumped at the invite to meet at her Alma mater. With a honours in Computer Science and a master's . Sweta decided to come to India after a long stint in the US.

VJTI is one of the oldest Engineering college in Asia. Established in 1887, it offers programs in Engineering & Technology at the diploma, degree, post grad & doctoral level.
Situated in a lush 16 acre plot it boasts of beautifully maintained gardens, humongous functional structures, including the TBI (Technology Business Incubator) started in 2017 and currently supports 37 startups working in the are of energy, clean tech, EV & cyber securities.

Sweta other than being an active VJTI alumni has started an NGO, Tulsipatra.org .This aims to empower women & children through education & sustainability initiatives.

A fun educative 'Tree Walk' with at .

Interesting anecdotes was shared by Katie. Was introduced to Bhendi, Putranjiva, Indian Cork, Jungli Badaam, Guest tree and the Hatiamiuki tree and many more. There are only four of these Hatiamiuki trees found in and not found anywhere else in Mumbai.
