The disastrous floods which Kerala witnessed in month of August made the world feel that ,Kerala is pushed back by 15 years and the biggest challenge would be to get Kerala back to normal situation. The people of Kerala with support of people from all over the world took up the challenge with amazing courage to change the perception of rescue and rehabilitation .
· Over 15000 volunteers reported at Alleppey to clean up the destination. Over 3000 volunteers reported at Munnar to clean up Munnar as a destination .
· Over 1000 people worked tirelessly to ensure the Cochin airport opens by 29th Aug .The airport condition then was such that people thought 29th opening would remain a dream but we opened the airport on the exact date and 35 flights landed on 29th as scheduled. The other airports at Trivandrum and Calicut were not affected and continue to operate normally.
· Over 100000 volunteers helping people rebuild their lives by personally handling over things required to start back their life .
Please find the update regarding the road connectivity between important tourist destinations in Kerala:-
• Thekkady / Periyar :- The road to Madurai / Munnar / Cochin / Kumarakom is open
• Munnar :- The road to Cochin / Periyar / Bodimet ( madurai road ) is open for travel
• Alleppey :- The roads to Cochin / Kumarakom / Trivandrum is open .
• Kumarakom :- The roads to Cochin / Periyar / Alleppey / Trivandrum are open .
• Cochin - Every thing is back to normal with all roads open to travel to any direction of Kerala .
• Calicut :- The roads to Trichur, Athirappally/ Cochin / Waynad / Kannur is open for all transport.
• Waynad :- The roads to Calicut / Mysore are open for all transport .
With regard to activities in Thekkady and Munnar we are pleased to inform you that the National Parks in both the destinations are open and the activities are open for the visitors to book.
The resorts in each destination in Kerala is now open with new and fresh look and started receiving guests including groups. International and Domestic Tourist have started to experience the local tours in all destinations.
Kerala will now be working hard to help the people who lost everything in the floods . This is not easy process however various projects are intimated which are short term and long term .
