Virgin Australia collapses, A major blow to Australia Tourism



The Corona virus travel bans has resulted in collapse of Virgin Australia, which is the second largest airlines operating in the country. The airline had cut almost all flights last month following Covid-19 travel restrictions.

The airline employs 10,000 people directly and another 6000 through ancillary businesses.

The incident points out a major blow to Australia's tourism industry.

KERALA READY TO LIFT LOCKDOWN PHASE BY PHASE

In the battle against containing the Covid-19 outbreak, Kerala has been widely praised by centre as well as other state governments and countries. Recently, the state made news in The Washington Post on its success in flattening the Covid-19 curve.
It is to be noted that Kerala is the first state in the country to report a positive Covid-19 case. A medical student who returned from Wuhan in China, had tested positive on February 03, 2020. From then on, Kerala continued to receive positive cases throughout the month and by first week of April 2020, there was an alarming increase in the number of cases. The highest positive number reported as 34 in a single day.
Right then on, stringent measures were taken by the state government in screening passengers right at airport, tracing contact and preparing route maps of the positive cases, quarantining and isolating each and every individual who might have been in contact with a positive/high risk. High risk contacts were kept on 28-day quarantine instead of 14 days. Together with effective 21-day lockdown imposed by the centre, Kerala emerged successful in not only flattening the corona virus curve, but increased recovery rate. The number of people kept in quarantine had also drastically reduced.

Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences in Trivandrum, has received approval from ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) to conduct clinical trials for plasma therapy treatment for Covid-19. But Kerala might not be able to go ahead with the clinical trials as the state does not have any critically ill Covid-19 case

So far Kerala has 397 confirmed cases of Covid-19, out of which 140 are currently under treatment. The number of people under surveillance has come down to 67190. In the last 24 hours the state has reported only 4 cases.
The containment strategies of both state and centre government together with the efforts of health department including doctors, nurses and health workers working relentlessly has helped the state to achieve success
