Ahhichatragarh fort is famous for its wall paintings. These 19th century wall paintings have been conserved with tremendous effort put in by His Highness Maharaja Gaj Singhji Sahib of Marwar - Jodhpur.

The Mehrangarh Museum Trust got support from the Getty Foundation and British-based Helen Hamlyn Trust. Remarkably, in 2002, Ahhichatragarh, had won UNESCO Asia- Pacific Heritage Award for Culture Heritage Conservation. Today, it is not only the recipient of numerous awards, but is the center of a joint wall painting conservation project with the Courtauld Institute, London.
