A little more about the REHWA Society :
Rehwa is a Not-for -Profit organization, started in 1979 , in response to the need to revitalize the weaving industry. Rehwa started with 3 objectives.
• sustain the hand weaving tradition of Maheshwar.
• To empower the women weavers by giving employment and an income which would improve their lives.
• To provide housing, healthcare and education to the weaver’s families.
Handloom weaving in Maheshwar has an ancient history dating back more than 1500 years. The current tradition owes its resurgence to Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar , who ruled the state of Indore from 1765 to 1795, and it was under her patronage that the weavers prospered.
Maheshwar is the home of one of India's finest handloom fabric traditions. Rehwa’s textiles are popular throughout the country, and are gaining global appeal due to the various international exhibitions held every year by the management. The textiles produced are handwoven using yarns like silk, cotton, linen, wool, and tussar.
Rehwa produces sarees, dupattas, fabrics, shawls and scarves as part of the fashion line. The home line showcases cushion covers, runners, table linen, bed linen and curtain panels.
