Pangot is a birders paradise and lies within the Naina Devi bird sanctuary a joy for bird watching enthusiasts.

Pangot, Nainital Overview
Located just 14 kilometres from Nainital, Pangot, located in the Kosiyakutoli tehsil of the Nainital district of Uttarakhand is a small and picturesque hamlet. The village is at the height of 6,300 feet above sea level and is well known all across the nation for its rich and exotic bird life. Pangot also becomes a hub for photography enthusiasts when hundreds of different species of birds flock here during the harsh winters in the upper Himalayas and settle down here temporarily. A step into the wilderness of Pangot, and you will find yourself in the midst of a remote Himalayan village.

The entire drive that reaches up to this marvellous area passes through the forested areas of Chenna Peak Range via Snow View Point and Kilbury, both of which are famous and excellent habitats for birding. A myriad of bird species can be seen along the way to Pangot. Some of these include Rufous-bellied Woodpecker, Spotted & Slaty-backed Forktail, Himalayan Griffon and Khalij pheasant. Spotting mammals like Yellow-throated Himalayan Marten, Sambhar, Himalayan Goral, Leopard Cat, Serow, Wild Boar, Red Fox etc. is also not uncommon. The famous Corbett National Park is situated just 80 kilometres from Pangot. Thick oak, pine and Rhododendron can be found dominating the vegetation of Pangot and nearby areas. The streams that pass by further enhance the aesthetic appeal of this breathtakingly fantastic sight. Undoubtedly, Pangot is the apt place for a small vacation with your partner, or the entire family, wherein you can simply lay back and relax.

Birding at pangot and environs staying at Woodside Retreat Pangot

Pangot is a small Himalayan village situated 15 kilometers from Nainital, a very quaint settlement of the local Kumaoni hill folk. It is a 35-minute drive from Nainital. The entire drive is through the forested area of Cheena Peak Range via Snow View Point and Kilbury. These habitats are excellent for bird watching and treks. This green belt supports an enormous variety of flora and fauna. More than 250 species of birds have been recorded in this area.
Renowned for Birding and nature walks, you can choose to soak in the terrific uninterrupted natural beauty or read a book and relax as you spot birds and wildlife right from comfort of your room’s sit out area. We can also arrange a trek to Naina Peak which at 2611 meters is one of the highest peaks in Nainital.

For those wanting more touristy options, one can also easily spend a couple of hours visiting the scenic spots of Nainital such as Dorothy Seat, Land's End and Tiffin Top. You can enjoy boating, sailing yachts, horse-riding or shopping in the local Tibetan market for handicrafts, candles, wooden products, shawls etc.

How to Reach
To get to Pangot, one can take any of the following options:
By Road
Drive from Delhi via Kathgodam and Nainital: 7-8 hours
Drive from Delhi via Bazpur and Kaladungi: 61⁄2 -71/2 hour

By Train
Overnight air-conditioned train from Old Delhi railway station (departing at 2235 hr.) to Kathgodam (arriving
at 0615 hr.) and then 2 hr. drive to Pangot via Nainital.

Overnight air-conditioned train from Old Delhi railway station (departing at 2235 hr.) to Ramnagar (arriving at
0500 hr.) and then 21⁄2 hr. drive to Pangot via Kaladungi.

There are now day trains to Kathgodam and Ramnagar as well.

All rooms have heaters and hot water bottles which are usually placed inside the beds before the guests sleep so the beds and quilts are warm .
We have 50 mbps broadband and a jiofi works extremely well there.
We have a round house where bonfires are arranged. We have a built bar be que with skewers so you can have all the bar be ques you want
