Built by a British ICS officer in 1876, Abbotsford () is a cosy mountain home in Nainital, named after Sir Walter Scott’s famous estate in Scotland. Janhavi Prasada ( , who owns and runs the estate today, is the fourth generation of her family to live here, and in many ways, the reason the house is still a living piece of heritage. In the late 2000s, Janhavi’s mother restored the property, and in 2014, the property opened as a small heritage homestay with only a handful of rooms, and the intention of keeping it alive as a family home.

May we never forget the beauty and colour of life that thrives through thick and thin.

Nature remains our greatest healer, teacher, and preacher.

All we must do is pause… listen and learn. 🌿

Seeing people share their stories and photos from 2016 sent me digging through my Google Photos, and I stumbled upon this picture. It instantly made me nostalgic and it also feels just right for a bookstagram page.
Sharing the stage with such incredible women: Jahnavi Prasada — author, entrepreneur, founder of the Himalayan Echoes Literary Festival, and so much more; Namita Gokhale, author and co-director of the Jaipur Literature Festival, Alka Pande, the celebrated art historian; Mamta Mansinghka of ; my dearest friend Divya Singh; and me on the extreme left. There’s also a wonderful person in the middle whose name I sadly can’t recall, but who is closely associated with the art and literary world of Kumaon.
This was from the very first Himalayan Echoes Literature Festival, held at in Nainital. Such fond memories of conversations, ideas, and a time that now feels beautifully distant.

The skies refuse to be anything but crystal-clear azure. The hills yearn for rain and snow, yet the sunshine feels comforting, almost healing. And so, conveniently, we brush aside what nature around us so desperately needs. it may be too little, too late.
Revel in what comes — for this too shall pass.
