Many ask us what is the best time to come stay at Fagunia. While the summer season might be the most convenient and popular time to visit the Himalayas, we have a soft corner for the monsoon season.

The sheer transformation of the landscapes and forests around us, the brilliant never ending drama of the ever changing weather and the roar of the waterfalls all round is simply stunning to experience. Over the years, one of the most popular questions we get asked is, why is our mountain home (and brand) called Fagunia? And how or why did we come up with the name? This does have an interesting back story.

Is the name connected to the spring month of Phagun? Is it connected to the village’s name where we are located? If yes, how did the village get its name?

To tell this story properly, we spent time listening to various local oral histories, exploring old records, and pieced together the fragments of a story that is slowly fading with time.

Like all good stories,it is a journey through memory, folklore, landscape, and history that reveals how places acquire names and meaning.

Exactly one year ago today, we started Fagunia Foundation’s Centre for Learning, an after school support initiative with a belief that children in remote rural mountain areas too deserve access to quality learning, and opportunities to grow.

Today, as we complete one year, our hearts are full of happiness and gratitude. What began with just 2 children on day one quickly grew into a vibrant learning space with 50+ enrolments within just a few months.

Through tutoring support, creative activities, and holistic development, we are nurturing confidence, curiosity, and dreams in every child.

This journey has only been possible because of the children, families, tutors, educators, supporters and specially our generous donors who believed in the vision and became an integral part of our journey.

Here’s to one year of learning, laughter, growth, and community — and to many more ahead!

Here are some glimpses from the amazing time we have had with the children at CFL over the last one year. We can’t wait to see what the coming years will bring!

It is almost exactly 3 years since we finished making our Tuscan style wood fired pizza oven.

We had made it together with Tautik Das and he has now written a wonderful article on the whole experience for our website. As we are located right next to a forest, saving our crops from monkeys and langurs takes up a lot of our attention and time, especially when the harvest is near. Today was one such fastest fingers first kinda day. Managed to harvest the first lot of air potatoes (gethi) and hoping our simian friends will let the remaining smaller ones be so that we get to enjoy them later. Winter is round the corner so looking forward to roasting these air potatoes over an evening bonfire soon.
