Some walks are measured in steps.

Others are measured in moments.

The cool mountain air, the smell of damp earth, the sound of birds greeting the day, and valleys filled with clouds stretching beyond the horizon.

You walk a little slower here.

You breathe a little deeper.

This is how mornings begin in Peora.

200 years later, they still stand.

These traditional Kumaoni homes were built from stone, timber, lime and mud by generations who understood the mountains intimately.

The ground floor housed cattle during the harsh winters. Families lived above. Small internal openings connected the two levels, allowing warmth, food and daily life to flow through the house without stepping outside.

Many of these homes are now unoccupied, yet the village continues to care for them. Walls are replastered, woodwork is preserved and annual whitewashing keeps them standing as reminders of a way of life that shaped Kumaon for centuries.

In Peora, heritage remains part of the landscape.

Stories from Peora.

The day begins with the first light over the Kumaon hills. By afternoon, forgotten trails lead to places that time seems to have left untouched. And as evening settles in, the mountains grow quiet once more.

Not every journey needs an itinerary. Some are best experienced one moment at a time.

Some evenings in Peora ask for nothing more than a quiet place to sit and watch the day disappear behind the hills.

No schedule. No distractions. Just the last light filtering through the pines, the valley turning gold, and conversations that slow down with the setting sun.

At The Orchard, sunset is not an event. It is part of the rhythm of the mountains.

Jafal season in Peora. Wild Himalayan berries collected fresh from the forests and trails around The Orchard.

Sweet, tart and deeply nostalgic, they appear for only a few weeks every year before disappearing back into the hills.

Swipe through the harvest, the colours and one of Kumaon’s simplest mountain rituals.

The road narrows. The hills open up. And suddenly you arrive at a place that feels suspended somewhere between mythology and memory.

A hidden Kumaoni wonder worth slowing down for.

The walk in. Rocky trails, pine-covered hills and rivers that cut through the mountains like they’ve been there forever.

A hidden natural pool that forms during the monsoon. Cold, still, untouched and tucked deep inside the forest.

The open river stretch. Sunlight on stone, flowing mountain water and the kind of silence cities forgot.

This is the slower side of the Himalayas. No crowds. No noise. Just nature doing what it has always done.
