Come experience living in the Toda huts it will be an experience you can talk about. These homes are oval and pent-shaped constructions are close to ten feet tall and close to 200 sq.feet. They are built of bamboo fastened with rattan and are thatched. Each hut is enclosed within a wall of loose stones. The front and back of the hut are usually made of dressed stones. The beauty is that these toda huts have a tiny entrance at the front – about 3 feet wide and three feet tall. The ambiance is typical of a toda home and is decorated with the Toda art forms, a kind of rock mural painting. Thicker bamboo canes are arched to give the hut its basic pent shape. Thinner bamboo canes are tied close and parallel to each other over this frame. Dried grass is stacked over this as thatch. It is truly a different lifestyle. Pristine Valley layouts are designed in such a manner that minimum amount of trees are felled. For every tree felled, 5 new saplings are planted in the valley. Constructing in the hills requires compliance to different elements which include ecological balance, building laws laid down by the local authorities, the materials used for durability and weathering elements. We have drawn our inspiration from the natural habitat and dwelling in the Alps. The interiors are crafted with high quality imported materials in bulk to keep the cost of construction minimal. As part of our social responsibility, on the anvil we plan to create a “Vocational training center” for the children from poorer section of the society. In the vicinity of Pristine Valley are predominantly migratory workers who are employed in the nearby tea estates and involved in agriculture and farm works. Our aim is to provide basic skill development in areas like computer operation, carpentry, electrical, plumbing etc. to take up a job for making a living. This center will be located in the close vicinity of the PV and will function under the PV Foundation. In fact, we are in talks with the Govt. of TN and the petition is pending with the Collector of Niligiris for lending their support to this project.
