They have some awesome chatni and their wada pav sells like hot cakes (:P) Ask for double chatni to get twice the goodness for nothing extra :)
Garden Wada Pav is a name which most punekars are familiar with. The place has been serving what many claim is the “best wada pav” in town for over three generations. It started its operations in the year 1972 in the form of a small tapri which was run b
y Kashinath Naiku and his mother Parvati. In the early years, it was best known for its kanda bhajji and then became the talk of the town for its spicy wada pav. Garden Wada Pav is based in the Camp area of Pune and has two outlets. One of them is nothing but a hand cart located opposite J J Garden while the other one is a small food stall situated across J J Garden where the wada pav is prepared right in front of you. The hand cart is managed by six attendants who surround the cart to attend to its ever growing customer base who flock around the centre all through the week. The wada pav is now priced at Rs. 8 Rs but back in the days it was sold at just 25 paise per wada. What sets the stall apart from all other wada pav centres in the city is its green chutney which is smeared between the wada and the pav. The chutney is prepared mainly using ginger, garlic and chillies and adds a delicious flavour to the spicy wada served hot with fried green chillies. And yeah you can always ask for extra chutney which the Kashinath family will be happy to provide at no extra charge. Another great feature of Garden Wada Pav is that their wada is always fresh and hot and the place is also fairly hygienic for a street food stall, which plays a big role in attracting new customers and getting the old ones to come back again and again. In fact the demand for their wada pav is so high, that the food stall owners have never had any inclination of expanding their one-item menu. They are happy to serve punekars what they are most famous for. The Kashinath family told us that their wada pav has also created waves in other cities like Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Bangalore as they often get party orders from outside Pune. We are not really sure how these guys manage the logistics associated with transporting these perishable food items to such farfetched places. But then again, all we care about is that we can feast on one of the best ‘Indian burgers’ in Pune anytime by just dropping in at Garden Wada Pav on any day of the week.
