Today, I want to talk about home stay tourism—who helped make it popular and who put so much effort into showing the world how a simple home can become a meaningful tourism experience.

I am talking about a legendary personality, Mr. Eco Heryman, often known as the “Eco Man.” His work and vision have shown how tourism can connect visitors with local communities, nature, traditional food, culture and a sustainable way of living.

Sustainable Tourism: More Than Just Business 🌿

Today, I am not talking about any particular property or destination.

I want to talk about the people behind tourism—the local guides, homestay owners, drivers, cooks, artisans, farmers and many others who are working through small tourism activities simply to build a better livelihood for themselves and their families.

They may not be trying to become billionaires. Their dreams are often much simpler: a stable income, dignity in their work, education for their children, and a better future for their families.

This is where sustainable tourism has a huge role to play in the modern world.

When tourism is planned responsibly, the benefits can reach local communities. It can create employment, support traditional knowledge, encourage conservation and give people a reason to protect the natural environment around them.

A small homestay, a local nature guide, a village meal, a birding walk or a responsible wildlife experience may look like a small business—but together, these activities can create a powerful sustainable economy.

Tourism should not only bring visitors to a place. It should also bring opportunities to the people who call that place home. 🌱

That, for me, is the real meaning of sustainable tourism.

Today, I am not talking about a stay—I am talking about a beautiful mountain drive! 🌿🚙

If you are in Ramnagar, take a drive towards Sitavani Forest. The journey itself is an experience. As you drive through the Shivalik hills, you can enjoy lush green forests, beautiful mountain landscapes, and, if you are lucky, glimpses of wildlife along the way.

Once you reach the higher areas, it is the perfect time to stop for a cup of hot chai and some delicious local cuisine. ☕🥘

For this, I think Rassia is one of the best choices. The owner, Mr. Mohan Pathak, is an excellent and warm-hearted person. When you meet him and spend some time talking with him, you will understand what makes this place special.

We recently stopped there with our friends and enjoyed some really yummy food in a wonderful mountain atmosphere. ❤️

Come for the drive, stay for the views, and enjoy the taste of the mountains!

As a nature lover, I also have a special affection for Manila, Almora. 🌿🏔️

Manila has so many interesting places to explore—the beautiful Manila Devi Temple, both the old and new temples, heritage sites, trekking trails, and, of course, the incredible opportunities for birding.

My recent birding tour there was truly fantastic. We were fortunate enough to spot the Cheer Pheasant, which made the experience even more memorable. 🐦❤️

I have visited Manila many times, but this trip felt particularly special because my tour expert was with me this time, making the journey even more enjoyable.

And, as always, I absolutely love the warmth and hospitality of the family there. They are wonderful people, and every visit feels like coming back to friends.

Manila is truly a place where nature, culture, wildlife and warm hospitality come together. 🌿❤️

Authentic homestay tourism is not about luxury—it's about experiencing local culture, nature, and the warmth of a family.

During our stay at Kanarkha Kaphal Homestay, beautifully managed by Mr. Daya Kishan and his family, we experienced exactly that. I took my children there, and they had a wonderful time exploring the beautiful natural surroundings.

The food was completely organic, fresh, and lovingly home-cooked, making every meal special. More than just a place to stay, this homestay offers an opportunity to learn about rural life, sustainability, and genuine Kumaoni hospitality.

We truly enjoyed every moment of our stay and are certain that we will return again.
