Vanghat Lodge

Vanghat Lodge Vanghat Lodge: A haven for seasoned wildlife and birding enthusiasts.

Enjoy walking safaris, immersive bird watching, and eco-friendly stays by the Ramganga River. Accessible only by a 2 km cross-country walk and raft across the river waters, Vanghat lodge is a wilderness paradise unlike anything else to be found around Jim Corbett National Park.

'Vanghat' translates from Hindi to mean 'forest on the river', and it can often be hard to determine where the woodland

ends and the lodge begins. Surrounded by the wildlife of the Kalagarh Tiger Reserve, itself part of the larger Corbett Tiger Reserve and situated on an important wildlife corridor, the lodge is host to all manner of iconic and rare species. Conservation and a minimized environmental footprint are central to our ethos and we are proud to say we are a lodge run by naturalists for naturalists. Vanghat is famed for its warm hospitality as well as its walking safaris, birding and mahseer fishing, all accompanied by expert local guides; tailor-made special interest stays can also be arranged for those with something particular in mind.

World Photography Day

At Vanghat, we believe the best wildlife photographs are those that never disturb the wild. When the welfare of wildlife comes before the photograph, photography becomes a powerful tool for wildlife conservation and nature preservation.

A single image can inspire someone to visit, appreciate, and ultimately protect the natural world.

This World Photography Day, we thank all the photographers who have shared their beautiful moments from Vanghat with us. Your patience, respect for wildlife, and thoughtful storytelling continue to inspire others to connect with nature responsibly.

Monsoon has a way of slowing us down and helping us see the forest a little differently.

Every journey leaves behind a story.

Some experiences are best shared by the people who have lived them.

We're grateful to our guest for sharing her thoughts and memories from her time at Vanghat. Hearing how the forest leaves a lasting impression is one of the greatest rewards for all of us.

Thank you for your kind words and for being a part of the Vanghat story. We hope the memories stay with you, and that one day, the forest welcomes you back once again.

Celebrating 90 Years of the Corbett Landscape

On 8th August 1936, Hailey National Park was established as India's first national park, laying the foundation for wildlife conservation in India. Renamed Ramganga National Park in 1955, it became Corbett National Park in 1956, and has inspired generations ever since.

At Vanghat, we are fortunate to be part of this remarkable landscape. The Ramganga River that flows through the forests of Dhikala also flows past Vanghat, reminding us that this wilderness is one connected ecosystem, where forests, rivers, wildlife, and people are deeply intertwined.

As we celebrate 90 years of the Corbett Landscape, we honour the generations of forest personnel, local communities, researchers, naturalists, and conservationists who have helped protect this extraordinary wilderness. It is a privilege to be a small part of its continuing story.

Happy 90th Foundation Day, Jim Corbett National Park.

The greatest privilege is not to conquer the wild, but to coexist with it.

Many know Vanghat for its winter birding and pleasant summers. But the monsoon offers an experience that is entirely different. The journey begins with a walk through rain-soaked forest trails, where every step brings you closer to a landscape transformed by the rains.

This is when the forest is at its richest. Fresh greenery, flowing streams, butterflies, fungi, insects, amphibians and countless forms of life emerge together, revealing the incredible biodiversity that often goes unnoticed. It is a season not just for wildlife sightings, but for understanding how a forest truly comes alive.

With fewer visitors and the soothing rhythm of rain, the monsoon is a time for those who extremely seek solitude, slow travel and a deeper connection with nature. At Vanghat, the experience begins long before you reach the lodge—because here, the journey is as meaningful as the destination.

WORLD RANGER DAY | 31 JULY 2026

Across forests and protected landscapes, forest guards and rangers stand on the frontline of conservation. And when human–wildlife conflict occurs, they are often among the first to face the situation — protecting communities while ensuring the safety of wildlife.

Here in the Corbett landscape, we see this responsibility closely. From responding to wildlife movement around forest-edge villages to patrolling difficult terrain, their work requires courage, patience and a deep understanding of the forest.

Jim Corbett himself shared a deep respect for the people of these forests — those who knew the land, its wildlife and its ways. They were his companions in the wilderness, "kindred souls connected by their understanding of the forest."

On World Ranger Day, we honour these guardians everywhere — those who continue to stand between conflict and coexistence, protecting both people and the wild.

For the forest, its wildlife, and the people who live alongside it.

Celebrating Harela – A Promise to Nature

Harela, Uttarakhand's festival of greenery, welcomes the monsoon and the beginning of a new farming season. Celebrated as a symbol of renewal, prosperity, and harmony with nature, it reminds us that caring for the earth is one of our oldest traditions.

At Vanghat Lodge, we celebrate Harela by planting 100+ native saplings every year. From bamboo—an important food source for Asian elephants—to a variety of indigenous tree species, native grasses, and tall elephant grass species, every plant is carefully selected to strengthen the forests and wildlife of the Corbett landscape.

Planting is only the beginning. Through regular care and protection, the mortality rate of our saplings remains almost negligible, ensuring that these young trees continue to thrive and become part of tomorrow's forest.

This Harela, let's celebrate by giving back to nature—because every forest begins with a single sapling.

Happy Harela... 🙏☺️ 🌿
