Vanghat Lodge

Vanghat Lodge Vanghat Lodge: A haven for seasoned wildlife and birding enthusiasts.

Enjoy walking safaris, immersive bird watching, and eco-friendly stays by the Ramganga River. Accessible only by a 2 km cross-country walk and raft across the river waters, Vanghat lodge is a wilderness paradise unlike anything else to be found around Jim Corbett National Park.

'Vanghat' translates from Hindi to mean 'forest on the river', and it can often be hard to determine where the woodland

ends and the lodge begins. Surrounded by the wildlife of the Kalagarh Tiger Reserve, itself part of the larger Corbett Tiger Reserve and situated on an important wildlife corridor, the lodge is host to all manner of iconic and rare species. Conservation and a minimized environmental footprint are central to our ethos and we are proud to say we are a lodge run by naturalists for naturalists. Vanghat is famed for its warm hospitality as well as its walking safaris, birding and mahseer fishing, all accompanied by expert local guides; tailor-made special interest stays can also be arranged for those with something particular in mind.

Some experiences stay with you — especially when children truly begin to enjoy nature in their own way.

It was wonderful to host this lovely family again at Vanghat, and this time for the Discover Mowgli Program. Watching the kids step away from screens, explore the forest, and stay deeply engaged throughout — that’s exactly what this program is meant to create. And when parents get to witness these moments, it becomes even more meaningful.

Both parents are highly respected professionals — Supreme Court Advocates and nature and wildlife enthusiasts — working closely with nature in their own way, which made their experience here even more special to share.

Thank you for trusting us again and for your kind words. It truly means a lot.

With summer holidays just around the corner and Discover Mowgli now started, this is the perfect time for children to explore, learn, and build a real connection with nature — while creating memories that stay with them for a long time.

Some weekends are not meant to be rushed.
They are meant to be felt.

As Good Friday and Easter approach, we wish you a peaceful and meaningful long weekend — wherever you choose to be.

This Easter weekend, as destinations fill up and noise grows louder, there is still a place where mornings begin with river sounds, and days unfold slowly under the forest canopy.

At Vanghat, the experience is different.
No crowds. No pressure. Just space — to walk, to observe, to breathe.

While the long weekend brings movement everywhere else, here it brings stillness.
And in that stillness, the forest reveals itself quietly — in bird calls, soft light, and moments you don’t have to chase.

If you’ve been wanting a few quiet days in nature, this is a good time to come.

Limited availability for the Easter weekend.
Reach out to plan your stay.

Not all learning happens in a classroom.
Sometimes, it begins with a quiet walk through the forest.

At Vanghat, Discover Mowgli is designed for children to experience nature in its simplest and most honest form. Through guided forest walks, time by the river, and close observation of birds and the surrounding wilderness, young minds begin to notice, question, and understand the natural world around them.

This is not about rushing through activities, but about slowing down—listening to the forest, recognising its rhythms, and building a deeper, lasting connection with nature.

The program begins from 1st April.
With small, focused groups, we try to keep the experience personal and meaningful.
If this feels like the right space for your child, we would be happy to share more details.

“Twinkle, twinkle, little star…”
A poem many of us grew up with. Yet today, many children see more screens than stars. The quiet joy of lying under a sky full of stars has slowly disappeared from everyday life.

This summer at Vanghat, we invite parents and children to step away from phones and reconnect with the real world of nature. As part of our Discover Mowgli program, families will experience the magic of stargazing in the forest, where the night sky shines above the trees and the Ramganga flows quietly nearby.

Designed for young explorers and their families, Discover Mowgli brings children closer to nature through simple outdoor experiences — from forest walks and wildlife tracking to creative nature activities.

Join us this summer at Vanghat and let your children rediscover the stars, the forest, and the joy of the outdoors.

The forests of Vanghat often speak for themselves — but sometimes, the most honest stories come from those who have walked its trails.

Here, our guest shares a few moments from their time beside the forest waterfall — remembering the quiet trails, the wild beauty of the landscape, and the thrill of witnessing a leopard in its natural home.

Experiences like these are what make time in Vanghat truly unforgettable.

Thank you for sharing your Vanghat experience with us.

Some moments in the forest reveal themselves unexpectedly.

During a walking safari along the Champion Trail, Vanghat, Dr. Riya, one of our valued guests, experienced one such unforgettable moment. As the group was walking along the forested slope with our guide Anil Kumar, a leopard suddenly gave two deep growls from somewhere above the trail, alerting everyone to its presence.

After carefully looking around, the leopard was located resting high within the canopy of a forest tree above the trail, perfectly camouflaged among the leaves. Maintaining a safe and respectful distance, the group quietly observed while Dr. Riya captured this remarkable sight through her camera.

Along the trail she also recorded several birds including Lesser Fish Eagle, Tawny Fish Owl, Treepies, Sunbirds, Parakeets, Wagtails and Redstarts, adding to the richness of the walk.

With summer gradually settling over the valley, wildlife often seeks cool shade within forest canopy and riverine areas, making this a wonderful time to explore the landscape around Vanghat.

March 3 is World Wildlife Day. Here at Vanghat, it is not something distant. It moves in the Ramganga — in the flash of a mahseer beneath the surface, in the quiet glide of an otter at dusk, in the shadow of a fish eagle watching the current.

Above the river, the forest carries its own rhythm. Elephants pass through silently. Martens move like fire through the trees. Ghoral hold the cliffs. Leopards remain unseen but present. This balance is delicate — and it depends on space, water, and restraint.

We may not protect the whole world. But we can protect this valley. On World Wildlife Day, we stand for the river, the forest, and the life that depends on both.

This morning, on the 1st of March — the shared birthday of our co-founder Mrs. Pushpa Ghosh, Carol Inskipp, and the mother of Vanghat’s founder — we began the day quietly on the forest trails of Corbett with the Corbett Clean Trail team, picking up what the forest did not deserve to carry. It felt like a small, but important way of giving back to a place that has given us so much.

Later, we spent time at USR Indu School with the special children who welcomed us with open hearts. We shared sweets, played Holi together, and celebrated in the most honest way — through laughter, colour, and togetherness. Moments like these stay with you. Being able to support them, even in a small way through Vanghat, remains deeply meaningful to us.

Today also marks Carol Inskipp’s birthday. Her Birds of the Indian Subcontinent has guided generations, and we are looking forward to her incredible work — the second edition of this landmark book. It felt like a day of care, colour, and gratitude, shared across lives deeply connected in spirit.

Over the past few days, spring has begun to reveal itself more completely at Vanghat. Flowers that were only beginning to open are now in full bloom, and butterflies have returned to the forest paths and river edges, moving constantly between colour and light.

These small lives mark an important moment in the valley’s cycle. Their arrival signals warmth, renewal, and the brief season when the forest feels both delicate and full of energy. For those who walk slowly and watch closely, this is one of the most beautiful transitions of the year.

Spring at Vanghat is not defined by a single day, but by these quiet appearances — a flower opening, a butterfly resting, and the sense that the landscape is alive once again. For those who have been waiting for the right time to visit, this brief spring season is among the most rewarding moments to be here.

Would you like to spend this Holi away from the crowds?

Instead of noise and colour in the air, imagine quiet mornings beside the Ramganga, light filtering through sal forests, and the red silk cotton blooms bringing the first true colours of the season. At Vanghat, known as a bird paradise, colour comes not from powder, but from nature itself — crimson sunbirds glowing like living jewels in the forest light, and the yellow-throated marten moving silently along the riverbank.

The celebration here is unhurried — guided forest walks, birdsong at dawn, and evenings shaped by river silence rather than city sound.

For those who would like to spend the Holi weekend along the Ramganga River at Vanghat, we offer a limited number of rooms, allowing you to experience the landscape without crowds.

Vanghat Guided Excursions — exploring the greater Terai landscape beyond our forest home.

During one of our recent tailor-made journeys from Vanghat, we explored the Terai grasslands and wetlands of Kishanpur, Pilibhit, Katarniaghat, and Dudhwa in Uttar Pradesh. These landscapes rewarded us with remarkable wildlife, including the One-horned Rhinoceros, Swamp Deer, Tiger, Mugger Crocodile, and the grassland specialist Swamp Francolin. A particularly special moment was the sighting of a Falcated Duck, an uncommon winter visitor here and a true highlight for any wildlife traveller.

These experiences reflect the richness of the Terai belt that connects Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. From Vanghat, we continue to offer guided excursions and tailor-made wildlife journeys for those who wish to explore these extraordinary landscapes in depth.

You are welcome to join us and experience these journeys from Vanghat.
