Camp Hornbill is a community-led enterprise, set up in 2010 by residents of the village Kyari. The PCR is part of the larger Corbett Tiger Reserve in Uttarakhand India. The camp is solely owned and managed by members and
the youth of the local community. It was established with a vision to promote and encourage ecotourism in the village of Kyari. Camp Hornbill actively promotes nature conservation
and rural development in the Corbett Tiger Reserve in collaboration with the forest department, local communities and members of the civil society. At Camp Hornbill our aim is to seed an alternative form of nature travel that is responsible and contributes to nature conservation and community development. When visiting Camp Hornbill, you will experience nature and forests in their most pristine form while staying in one of our spacious mud huts. The camp is developed and run keeping the eco- tourism principles in mind. Each mud hut was hand crafted and built by our very own team and is complete with an attached bath (western style toilet) and all the necessary facilities. Each also includes a cozy veranda outside where you can enjoy your tea and coffee, relax, read a book from our library and watch the many species of birds. Guests can relax outdoors next to the pond, in the common area “Chaupal Hut” or conveniently placed hammocks and outdoor seating areas. Enjoy a fire by night in one of our crafted campfire areas. Additionally we are just a stones throw away from the Kitchdi River where you can wet your feet on a hot summer day. Our buffet offers three traditional meals per day, prepared with great care and locally sourced ingredients. During your stay you will have a chance to chat with the locals, explore the area and take part in the surrounding activities. We offer guided nature walks with one of our local and knowledgeable guides. Each of us here at Camp Hornbill has an intimate relationship with the surrounding environment having spent our lives here in the village Kyari. We can inform you of local precautions and answer many questions regarding conservation and local flora and fauna. Guided hikes, tours of the local village, bicycle rental and tours are also available, along with a body surfing experience in the nearby canal. Nearby you will also find an adventure park and zipline opportunity sure to get your adrenaline pumping. The area is abundant in wildlife and you may just hear a tigers roar or elephants call in the surrounding jungles. Birdwatching is popular as we are frequently visited by all 3 species of Hornbills found in this landscape, as well as many other species of birds. This is the perfect place to embark on a wildlife safari to the tiger reserve of the famous Jim Corbett National Park or the surrounding conservation area.
