RAVANGLA
Ravangla, is a small town situated in South Sikkim, surrounded by high-forested hills and undulating valleys dotted with village huts, its an ideal place for short treks and bird watching. Ravangla is 65 kms from Gangtok, 134 kms from NJP, 142 kms from Bagdogra, and 75 kms from Darjeeling. RABONGLA ECOVILLAGE
Located not more than a kilometer and a short walk above the town and contained
in an area of a little less than one acre, surrounded by pine trees, snow capped peaks and rolling hills, a cottage lies overlooking the beautiful small village of Ravangla. Rabongla Ecovillage support sustainable tourism and promotes an environment friendly vision. It aims to develop a model for sustainable living and provide a healthy, satisfying and enriching experience. ARTISTS IN RESIDENCY
In our endeavour to promote art and culture we offer the Artist in Residence programme. Offering affordable retreat space, studios and accommodations for visual artists, musicians, writers and creative thinkers to pursue their creative goals and projects in a congenial, natural and peaceful environment. We intend to facilitate artists the atmosphere to think, experiment, collaborate and share ideas or if required zone out into a private space. Our vision is to give both local and traveling artists a place to live, work, and showcase their artwork. We encourage the use of local resources and work with local craftsmen. The fresh herbs, fruits and vegetables grown in our kitchen garden and locally produced inspire the menu. For those tempted to eat out on a nice summer day or starry nights, we have a barbeque space outside. We are also under the process of making a traditional cooking stoves (chula). The following are actions we have already taken to minimize our footprint on the environment.
• We encourage artists to make art from
recycled materials.
• We do not use any plastic ware, cups or
plates.
• We use timber trimmed from our own trees for
firewood.
• We encourage guests to walk or
cycle while staying with us.
• We use energy saving bulbs.
• We do not use any kind of pesticides or
dangerous chemicals in our garden.
• We do not offer animal feeders of any kind to
artificially attract local wildlife. However we
have used local plants and trees that attract
wildlife.
• We educate our staff how and what to
recycle.
• We encourage our guest to turn off lights
when not in use.
• We do not have televisions, hair dryers or any
other type of energy consuming appliances in
the rooms.
• We use only local building materials, supplies
and labor. (during construction)
PLEASE NOTE: Do not bring plastic bottles. If you do, you are requested to take them back with you. We are a plastic free zone. COME STAY WITH US. Ohh, those lovely little birdies will brighten up your day. Enjoy interacting with the local people, plant flowers, take a walk, write, sketch, paint, read, dance, bike on the paths, have a picnic, watch the sunset or simply relax under the starry sky.
