Regular visitors consider Ranthambore, as one of the best national parks in the world to see Bengal tigers, wild, in their natural habitat. But here you don't just see Bengal tigers you see Noor, Machali (or "fish" from the fish-like markings on her cheek), Star male, Jumru and so on. Each of Ranthambore's denizens are well identified and The Ranthambhore Bagh, with its trained team, is perhaps your best bet to know who is who.

Nature’s Perfect Intermission

What happens when you step away from the everyday and spend three days looking more closely at the world around you?

The Naturalist at the Bagh is an invitation to do just that.

Over three days, we will explore the landscapes around The Ranthambhore Bagh — beginning at ground level, with terrestrial habitats, plants and pollinators; moving through the rewilding landscape at Badhlav; and eventually following the ecosystem to the Chambal.

We will look at birds, mammals and reptiles. At adaptations and relationships. At coexistence, conflict and conservation.

But this gathering is not about learning to identify everything.

It is about learning how to look.

To notice the pollinator on a flower.

The relationship between an animal and its habitat.

The life of a riverbank.

The connections between water, land, people and wildlife.

Three days.

From the ground,
to the forest,
to the river.

Evening Vibes | The Sturgeon Moon 🌕

A moon named, like so many old moons, by paying attention to the natural world, to fish, harvests, birds and the changing seasons.

Somewhere, a long way from here, this moon was once a sign of sturgeon filling the lakes.

Here, it rose through the monsoon haze, over trees, water and the Aravallis.

Chapter Three · Piece by Piece, It Was Complete.

The pieces were almost there.

The final stage was about patience:filling the spaces, cleaning away the excess, and slowly revealing what had been taking shape underneath.

There was something satisfying about watching the colours return as the grout was cleaned away, and seeing four very different ideas finally become finished pieces.

And then came the moment of holding them up and seeing the work complete.

Four pieces.
Four very different expressions of the same afternoon.

What began with a table full of fragments had become something each of them could take home.

Piece by piece, it was complete.

There is a version of this place that only exists in monsoon.
The grass turns before anything else does.
The lizards come out to argue with the light.
A child meets a rabbit for the first time, and neither of them hurries.

We gather around a thousand puzzle pieces.
We make things, piece by piece.
We fry pakodas because the rain asks for them.

We slow down.
We stay a little longer.
We begin to notice what we might otherwise have missed.

And somewhere around evening, the moon comes up anyway, whether or not you're paying attention to it.

This is what attention looks like, when you give the wild room to answer.

Monsoon at The Bagh, Ranthambore.

Some things are made one small piece at a time.
A nest.
A mosaic.
A garden.
A life.

As the last of the monsoon lingers at the Bagh, the landscape is lush and green.
Birds feast on bajra. Weaver birds piece together their nests.
Butterflies add movement and colour, and occasionally, the skies surprise us with rainbows.

This September, we gather again.

Chapter Two: The Pieces Coming Together

The pieces began to find their places.

Some came together quickly. Others took a little more thought as a colour moved, a shape was reconsidered, or another piece cut to fit.

Everyone was completely engrossed in the making. There was something wonderfully absorbing about watching a pattern slowly emerge from a table full of fragments.

And while everyone was busy at work, the day was unfolding with Buddy and Junior never too far from the action, and the garden, the pool and the evening waiting in between.

The work was far from finished.

But piece by piece, something was beginning to emerge.

Chapter One: The First Pieces.

There was something wonderful about seeing the tables fill with colour, hands find their rhythm, and a room I know so intimately take on a new energy as people gathered around my table to learn the art of mosaic.

The first cuts. The first choices. The calmness and focus. The laughter and conversations.

Piece by piece.

The first pieces are in place.

Global Tiger Day

Some people photographed tigers. Aditya spent a lifetime getting to know them.

For more than two decades, he returned to the same forests, the same trails and often the same tigers—patiently documenting their lives, identifying individuals by their unique stripe patterns, mapping territories and watching generations unfold.

This knowledge was built one observation at a time. His photographs, field notes and understanding became a trusted resource for researchers, filmmakers, guides and the Forest Department, helping deepen our understanding of Ranthambhore’s remarkable tiger population.

But spending so many years alongside tigers also taught us something else.

Protecting tigers is not enough. We must protect—and wherever possible, create—more habitat.

That understanding led us to begin rewilding thirty-five acres of degraded farmland, now known as Bagh Forest. It is a small contribution within the larger Ranthambhore landscape, but every additional patch of habitat has the potential to support life.

On this Global Tiger Day, we celebrate not just the tiger, but the forests that sustain it—and the people who quietly dedicate their lives to understanding and protecting both.

Because every tiger needs more than protection. Every tiger needs space to thrive.

That is the spirit of I Choose Earth.

It’s an invitation to make one conscious choice for the natural world—whether that’s restoring habitat, supporting conservation, reducing our footprint, or simply taking the time to notice and care.
