सह्याद्रीत वसलेले हे गड-कोट किल्ले…त्यांचा इतिहास, तो निसर्ग, डोंगर दऱ्या, नदी…ओढे, पक्षी पाखरे…विविध रंगी फुले….झाडे वेली…ती माती…तो तिथला दरवळीत सुगंध…तो आनंद मनाला पार भुलवून टाकतो….सह्याद्रीचे वर्णन करावे तेवढे थोडेच आहे. त्याच्या अथांग रूपापुढे आपण नेहमीच खुजे वाटत असतो. इथे घडलेल्या इतिहासाने सह्याद्रीला अनन्यसाधारण असे महत्त्व प्राप्त करून दिले आहे. सह्याद्रीत उभे ठाकलेले गडकिल्ले आपल्याला इथल्या इतिहासाची भव्यता,कल्पकता, सुंदरता यांची प्रचिती देत आजही अगदी भक्कमपणे उभे आहेत. जवळ-जवळ ५०० वर्षे किंवा अधिक काळापासून हे सर्व किल्ले,मंदिरे आपल्या वैभवशाली इतिहासाची साक्ष देत आहेत.सह्याद्रीला आपापल्या परीने समजुन घेण्यातच खरी मजा आहे, सह्याद्रितील चढ़-उतार आयुष्याच्या नव्या व्याख्या शिकवतात.इथला निसर्ग जगणे शिकवतो. इथले नदी नाले निरंतर आणि संकट काळातुन वाहण्याचा संदेश देतात. इथला रानवारा मनाला सुखावून जातो. इथे प्राणी-पक्षी-वन्यजीव नवनव्या संकल्पनेतुन धैर्य आणि वेळ प्रसंगीशांततेचे रूप घडवतात. खरच हा बेलाग आणि अफाट सहयगिरी मनमोहक आणि कधी कधी रौद्र भासवुन विविधतेच दर्शन घडवतो.असा हा ”सह्याद्री” आणि मनाला भुलवणारा, अद्भुत हवा हवासा वाटणारा ”निसर्ग”…सगळ्यांना वेड लावणारा सह्याद्री..

“Ratan” means Jewel in Hindi. This hill fort is indeed jewel in all the hill forts here in Sahyadri. Geographically Ratangad is on the banks of Bhandardara lake in Ahmednagar district at a height of 4255 feet above sea level. With views of lake and highest mountains in Sahyadri looks very much lost in time.

A 1000 years old temple of Lord Shiva, the Amruteshwar Temple at Ratanwadi, is an absolute paragon of high class architecture of our ancestors, is at the base of this fort. Ratangad has still the remains of fortress with bastions and stone walls. Water cistems are usually filled with water throughout the year and trekkers use them as water source. Eastern side of the fort has some fortification left; one can see Rani Mahal here. From the southern side on can see Katrabai and Ajoba fort very close. This side has also some fortification left, but most of it is damaged. Climbing up on the northern side, one can see natural or***ce (hole in rock, locally called nedhe) in the rock face, mostly made by wind. Strong winds can be experienced at this or***ce. Decend to the western end of the fort leads closest to the Khutta Pinnacle via Trimbak Darwaja.
