80th Independence Day Celebration at Youth Hostel Shillong

Youth Hostel Shillong celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with great patriotic spirit and enthusiasm. The National Flag was hoisted by Shri. Daniel Doonai, Manager, Youth Hostel Shillong, and Shri. Ketan Singla, District Youth Officer, MY Bharat, Shillong, in the presence of hostellers and staff.

The celebration was followed by the distribution of sweets and snacks among the guests and hostellers. A special attraction of the programme was the presence of a special guest artist from Rajasthan, who was invited by the Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya to present a performance at Polo Ground on 15th August. The participation of the special guest, along with many other hostellers, added colour and enthusiasm to the Independence Day celebration at Youth Hostel Shillong.

To commemorate the birth anniversary of the great patriot, novelist, and composer of India's National Song Vande Mataram, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, MY Bharat Meghalaya, in collaboration with Youth Hostel Shillong, organized a Vande Mataram Singing Programme at the Youth Hostel Shillong on 27th June 2026.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, reaffirming the commitment of MY Bharat Meghalaya and Youth Hostel Shillong to continue organizing meaningful activities that promote patriotism, cultural awareness, and youth engagement.

The event was a fitting tribute to the timeless legacy of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and served as a reminder of the enduring message of Vande Mataram—love, devotion, and service to the motherland.

The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial (IACM) 2026 was observed today at Youth Hostel Shillong under the theme "LIGHT THE LEGACY: Remember. Advance. Act." The programme was organized by the Meghalaya State Network of Positive People (MSNP+) in collaboration with Youth Hostel, Shillong to commemorate those who have lost their lives to HIV/AIDS, raise awareness, and promote a stigma-free society.

The event was graced by Mr. Daniel Doonai, Manager, Youth Hostel Shillong, as the Guest of Honour, and the Project Director, Meghalaya State AIDS Control Society (MACS/NACO Meghalaya) as the Chief Guest.

The programme witnessed the participation of representatives from MSNP+, healthcare professionals, community leaders, youth volunteers, and members of the public. A candlelight tribute was held in memory of those who lost their lives to AIDS, symbolizing hope, solidarity, and commitment towards an AIDS-free future.

Youth Hostel Shillong is proud to support such meaningful initiatives that promote community welfare, awareness, and social responsibility.

Youth Hostel Shillong, in collaboration with My Bharat Meghalaya and the Meghalaya Yogasana Sports Association (MYSA), successfully celebrated International Yoga Day 2026 on 21th June 2026 with the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, supported by Directorate of Youth Affairs & Sports, Meghalaya at Youth Hostel, Shillong.

The occasion was led by Mrs. Linda B. K. Sangma, State Director, My Bharat Meghalaya, and Mr. Daniel Doonai, Manager, Youth Hostel Shillong & State President, Meghalaya Yogasana Sports Association, who encouraged participants to incorporate yoga into their daily lives for a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.

The yoga session was followed by the distribution of refreshments and healthy fruit juice to all participants and hostellers, fostering a spirit of wellness, unity, and community participation.

Youth Hostel Shillong expresses its sincere gratitude to My Bharat Meghalaya, the Meghalaya Yogasana Sports Association, participants, volunteers, and all supporters who contributed to the successful celebration of International Yoga Day 2026.
