Flower of the day.

Common name: Morning Glory.

Botanical name: specifically identified as the Ipomoea purpurea.

Identification: known for its large, velvety, deep royal purple, trumpet-shaped flowers with a distinctive ruby-red star in the center and a pinkish-white throat. Its leaves are heart-shaped and a vibrant emerald green.

Blooming: The flowers open in the morning and typically close by the afternoon or on cloudy days, giving the plant its common name. It blooms continuously from early summer to the first frost.

The name 'Shali Heights' was coined for our Home Stay at Village Deola somewhere around 2001 which later on was registered under Village Homestay scheme started by the late Chief Minister Raja Virbhadra Singh in 2008.

However, in between this period while learning classical music from my respected Guru Ji Dr. Praveen Jaret one day I heard a very beautifully composed pahari bhajan about Shali Mata near Shimla in the class. A clip from June 2025. 'jagran' at Tara Devi Temple, Shimla.
