The monsoon does more than turn Satpura green. It creates the perfect conditions for butterflies to thrive.
Fresh vegetation feeds caterpillars, while damp, mineral-rich soil attracts butterflies for a behaviour known as mud-puddling. Here, they gather to absorb essential salts and nutrients from the ground.
A small spectacle, perhaps—but one of the forest’s most beautiful.
