Before colas took over every fridge, there was Panneer Soda. 🌹

And no, the panneer here has nothing to do with paneer. The name refers to rose water, which gives this old-school soda its unmistakable floral fragrance.

It was once the kind of drink you’d find in neighbourhood shops, local bakeries and tiny soda stalls across Tamil Nadu. Today, you may have to look a little harder.

But in places like Alwarthirunagari, you can still walk into a local shop and find that familiar green bottle waiting in the fridge.

Funny how a drink can disappear from our everyday lives but one sip can bring an entire summer back.

This was not on our “must-see” list.

Which, honestly, is how some of the best places happen.

We left for a short drive.

One quiet road became another.

The noise dropped.

The phone signal got shy.

And then, out of nowhere a cave temple.

This is the Andichiparai Rock Cut Cave Temple, also known as the Gangaikondan Rock Cut Cave. It’s an unfinished Pandya-era rock-cut cave, carved out of a large semi-circular boulder near Gangaikondan in Tirunelveli district.

And, it’s less than an hour from Anantya in the Village.

During Thaipusam, many devotees walk for Murugan with prayers, vows, kavadi, p**l kudam, and quiet faith.

Here, they place camphor on the road and light it as a small offering.

Because for them, this journey itself is sacred.

Everyone who sees it wants to turn it once.

What looks like a fun little object was once one of the most important things in a South Indian kitchen.

Before coffee powder came in packets, roasted coffee beans went into this hand grinder.
