Avanti was Ujjain's name long before Ujjain was.
We named the restaurant for that older self — the one inscriptions still answer to. Inside, the room is contemporary; the welcome is older. A bowl of lit lamps at the entrance, marble underfoot, wave-form light overhead, and a vegetarian menu that travels far without ever raising its voice.

First the lamps come on.
Then the pool is quiet.
Then someone pulls out a Glass of something cold, and the evening agrees to stay a while.

Ice keeps things cooler. Mint keeps things lighter.
