A 4th-generation entrepreneur, Piyush Shah possesses an innate understanding of customer needs and expectations. His forward-thinking approach has elevated SPH into a benchmark for exceptional guest experiences, continually setting new standards in the hospitality sector.

Innovations that Redefined Hospitality
Under Piyush Shah's leadership, SPH transformed into a trailblazer in the hospitality industry. He introduced Vadodara’s first-ever 146-room luxury hotel, offering premium international cuisines such as Mexican, Lebanese, and Thai. He also launched the city’s first authentic Gujarati Thali restaurant, as well as its first multi-flavoured ice cream parlour and fast-food joint—a testament to his commitment to innovation and quality.

In 2017, SPH joined hands with the Accor Group of Hotels (Accor), a globally renowned leader in hospitality. This collaboration marked the rebranding of Surya Palace Hotel into the Grand Mercure Vadodara Surya Palace (GMVSP), positioning it on the international stage and further enriching its legacy of excellence.

Piyush Shah’s remarkable career spans over five decades. His relentless pursuit of excellence has been shaped by a deep passion for creating memorable experiences and fostering customer loyalty. Beyond the accolades and achievements, what Piyush cherishes most is the unwavering love and dedication of his team and guests—a source of constant motivation.

He has had the privilege of serving distinguished personalities, including Presidents and Prime Ministers of India, most recently hosting the Honorable Prime Minister during his visit in June 2022.

An Advocate for Arts and Culture
Piyush Shah’s commitment extends beyond hospitality. With a background in commerce from M.S. University of Baroda, he has consistently championed the integration of arts and culture into the hotel’s identity. The property features a curated collection of paintings, sculptures, and murals by Baroda’s finest artists, reflecting Vadodara’s rich cultural heritage. This vision ensures that GMVSP not only provides world-class hospitality but also preserves and promotes the city’s artistic traditions.

A Legacy of Culinary Innovation:

From humble beginnings in the 1970s, we pioneered American-style fast food in Vadodara with Kalyan Fateh Gunj, introducing the city to fresh-sliced pizzas, gourmet burgers, and the first-ever display of 21 ice cream flavours. We created Vadodara's first Al Fresco dining experience, transforming Fateh Gunj into a vibrant evening hotspot for university students and army cadets alike.

Our journey continued with Kalyan Café in Sayaji Gunj, dubbed the "Nirula's of West," offering an extensive menu of Indian, Western, and Chinese cuisines under one roof. The 1980s saw the emergence of Hotel Surya, featuring the iconic Vega and Myra restaurants. We took pride in presenting Vadodara's first authentic Gujarati thali at Myra, while our legendary Hi-Tea at Vega (priced at Rs.5) became a national sensation.

Surya Palace marked our venture into luxury dining and hospitality. Home to the Royal Room - Gujarat's largest banquet facility - and Azure restaurant, which introduced Thai and Italian cuisines to Vadodara. We've had the privilege of serving everyone from royalty to cricket teams, managing events from intimate gatherings to grand celebrations of 15,000 guests.

Today, under the fifth generation with Satvik and Shagun at the helm, our legacy continues to evolve. Satvik's Global Gourmet has taken Indian cuisine worldwide, while Shagun brings creative innovation to ethnic fine dining. Together with Prachi's contribution to hospitality education through the Jindal School of Hotel Management, we continue our commitment to culinary excellence and innovation.

From introducing American fast food to creating world-class dining experiences, we've been proud to serve and grow with Vadodara for over five decades.
