GangesNirvana - A Community Home in the making
Ganges Nirvana started as a dream to have a place in Varanasi, for travelers, by travelers, self-sustaining, and basically an island of bliss in this ocean of a city. Located at a beautiful building in a safe and quiet neighborhood of the city, a little away from the river but closer to the airport and railway stations, we are trying to build something amazing out of a dilapidated old building.
It’s been a brilliant journey the past one year for this place, and it has evolved into a habitable shack for residents, with a few rooms for hire on AirBnB. Half the building houses volunteers and travelers from all over the world, who each contribute towards realizing the vision of this home.
With a few long term residents, and travelers coming and going all the time, the place oscillates between feeling like a busy travel junction and a communal home. The community operated kitchen feeds 10-20 mouths every day, while maintaining and upgrading the building all the while. We have plans for a co-working space on the ground floor and a rooftop cafe. Presently, GangesNirvana is almost entirely funded by Shashwat, the founder of this project, and some part of the revenue from the AirBnB rooms.
We’d love to host and connect with like-minded people and travelers who’d want to be a part of, or help shape, this effort and help take it towards it’s aim :)
