LA TORRE DI VIGNOLA: IL SIMBOLO DELLA NOSTRA COSTA 💙
Sullo sfondo del mare di Vignola, la Torre Aragonese è uno dei simboli più riconoscibili della costa di Aglientu. Un’antica sentinella di granito che ancora oggi domina il paesaggio e racconta una storia fatta di mare, difesa e navigazione.
La torre fu costruita agli inizi del 1600, nell’ambito del grande sistema di difesa costiera promosso dalla monarchia sp****la per contrastare le incursioni dei corsari barbareschi e proteggere questo tratto di costa.
La sua costruzione si inseriva in una vasta rete di torri e punti di avvistamento distribuiti lungo le coste della Sardegna, pensata per garantire un sistema di controllo e comunicazione. La Torre di Vignola era strategicamente collegata, attraverso segnalazioni visive, alle altre postazioni della costa, in particolare verso Longosardo, l’attuale Santa Teresa Gallura, e Isola Rossa.
Alta circa 12 metri, con la caratteristica forma troncoconica e realizzata in granito locale, la torre ospitava al suo interno gli spazi destinati alla guarnigione e all’artiglieria. Da qui era possibile sorvegliare un ampio tratto di mare e avvistare per tempo eventuali imbarcazioni sospette.
Oggi la Torre di Vignola non è soltanto una testimonianza del passato: è parte integrante del paesaggio e dell’identità della nostra costa. Da oltre quattro secoli guarda il mare e continua a rappresentare il legame profondo tra Aglientu, la sua storia e il suo territorio. 🌊🏰💙

VIGNOLA TOWER: THE SYMBOL OF OUR COAST 💙
Overlooking the sea of Vignola, the Spanish Tower is one of the most recognizable symbols of the Aglientu coastline. An ancient granite watchtower that still dominates the landscape today, telling a story of the sea, defence and navigation.
The tower was built at the beginning of the 17th century, as part of the extensive coastal defence system promoted by the Spanish monarchy to protect the coast from attacks by Barbary corsairs.
Its construction was part of a vast network of towers and lookout posts distributed along the Sardinian coastline, designed to create an effective system of surveillance and communication. Through visual signals, Vignola Tower was strategically connected to other coastal outposts, particularly towards Longosardo, today's Santa Teresa Gallura, and Isola Rossa.
Standing approximately 12 metres high, with its distinctive truncated-conical shape and built from local granite, the tower housed quarters for its garrison and artillery. From this strategic position, a wide stretch of sea could be monitored and potentially hostile vessels spotted in advance.
Today, Vignola Tower is much more than a testimony to the past: it is an integral part of the landscape and identity of our coastline. For more than four centuries, it has watched over the sea and continues to represent the deep connection between Aglientu, its history and its territory. 🌊🏰💙
