🚗🇮🇹 Only in Italy… seen in Alanno! ❤️

This gorgeous little red vintage car came driving through Alanno, completely decorated with greenery and flowers — and I just had to take a photo! 🌿🌸

It’s scenes like this that make living in Abruzzo so special. You can be going about an ordinary day and suddenly something wonderfully Italian appears around the corner. No big tourist attraction, no staged photograph — just real village life and a little bit of la dolce vita. 🇮🇹

Alanno is only a short distance from Abruzzo Borgo, and these are exactly the little moments we love sharing with our guests: old cars, village celebrations, traditions and the feeling that life here still moves at its own pace.

❤️ Sometimes the simplest things make the best memories.

🚗 On the Road to Rome 🇮🇹

We’re on our way to Rome this morning, driving through the beautiful mountains of Abruzzo, and we’re just passing Cocullo. ⛰️

This part of the journey is absolutely spectacular — winding roads, dramatic mountains and little villages tucked into the landscape. Cocullo might be tiny, but it’s famous throughout Italy for its extraordinary Festival of the Serpari, an ancient tradition where a statue of San Domenico is carried through the village accompanied by live snakes. 🐍

One of the things I love about travelling from Abruzzo to Rome is that the journey itself is part of the experience. Every few kilometres the scenery seems to change, and places like Cocullo remind you just how much history and tradition is hidden in these mountains.

Next stop… Rome! 🇮🇹❤️

💦 Four Views. One Incredible Pool. Welcome to Abruzzo Borgo. 🇮🇹

Which view would you choose? 😍

These four different views of our infinity swimming pool at Abruzzo Borgo show why it’s one of our guests’ favourite places to spend a summer day.

Surrounded by the green Abruzzo countryside and with incredible views stretching across the valley, the pool is somewhere to swim, relax, read a book, soak up the Italian sunshine or simply sit at the edge and take it all in. 🌿☀️

And as the light changes throughout the day, so does the view — peaceful mornings, brilliant blue afternoons and beautiful golden evenings.

This is what summer in Abruzzo is all about: space, nature, sunshine and time to slow down. ❤️🇮🇹

🎡✨ TONIGHT: Experience a Real Italian Village Festa! 🇮🇹🍕🎶

If you’re staying in Abruzzo and wondering what to do tonight, this is a great chance to experience one of the things we love most about summer in Abruzzo — a traditional village festa in Torre de’ Passeri! ❤️🇮🇹

The Festa Patronale di Sant’Antonino e Santa Croce begins tonight, Wednesday 2 September, with celebrations continuing until 4 September.

🌙 So what can you actually do there?

🎡 Enjoy the fairground — wander among the lights, rides and attractions that transform the town for the festa.

🛍️ Browse the bancarelle — traditional street stalls selling everything from sweets and snacks to toys, gifts and little Italian curiosities.

🍕 Eat your way around the festa! Stop for pizza, porchetta, arrosticini, panini, sweets or a drink and enjoy that wonderful smell of Italian street food filling the streets.

🎶 Follow the music and entertainment as the normally quiet town comes alive for the evening.

🍹 Stop at one of the local bars for an aperitivo, glass of w**e or spritz and watch the festa happening around you.

⛪ Experience the traditional side of the celebration. Patron-saint festivals aren’t simply parties — they are part of the culture and history of these small Abruzzo communities, bringing generations of local families together.

✨ And perhaps the best part is simply walking through the streets after dark — lights overhead, families out together, children on the rides, people chatting outside the bars and the whole town buzzing.

These are the evenings where you get to see the Abruzzo that tourists often miss.

If you’re staying with us, go hungry and make an evening of it! 🇮🇹🍷🎡

Sometimes the best memories of Italy aren’t made at the famous tourist attractions — they’re made on a warm evening at a little village festa you didn’t even know was happening. ❤️

🌿 Figs, sunshine & a very green Abruzzo Borgo! 💚

Our three beautiful fig trees in the central garden are absolutely FULL of figs right now! 😍 They’re loving the Italian summer sunshine — and there are going to be plenty to enjoy!

What’s amazing is just how green everything still looks. We’ve had hardly any rain for almost three months, but we’ve been keeping the gardens watered using water from the river. 💦🌱

So while the surrounding countryside is turning its beautiful late-summer gold, here at Abruzzo Borgo the central garden is still looking wonderfully lush and green.

And those figs… both our guests and us are eating a LOT of them! 😂💚

🐎⛰️ A Magical Day at Campo Imperatore

Some of our guests recently took a trip up to the incredible Campo Imperatore, and these are some of the beautiful photos they took while they were there. ❤️

One of the most unforgettable sights is seeing the horses roaming across the vast mountain landscape. With huge open plains surrounded by the peaks of the Gran Sasso, there are moments when it hardly feels like Italy at all!

Campo Imperatore is often called “Little Tibet” because of its enormous high-altitude plateau and dramatic, almost untouched scenery. And when you come across horses grazing and wandering freely in this landscape, it really is something special. 🐴🌿

This is one of the things we love about staying at Abruzzo Borgo — you can spend one day relaxing beside the swimming pool and another exploring some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Italy.

A huge thank you to our guests for sharing these wonderful photos with us. 📸❤️

Would seeing the horses at Campo Imperatore be on your Abruzzo bucket list?

🌄 Getting Closer to Abruzzo Borgo… and Look at the Difference! 🇮🇹

We’re now further up the road, almost at Abruzzo Borgo, and already you can see how much clearer the view is. There’s far less haze up here, and the beautiful Abruzzo landscape is starting to reveal itself. ⛰️🌿

As we climb higher towards the Borgo, the countryside opens up around us — rolling green hills, little villages and the mountains appearing much more clearly in the distance.

What a beautiful introduction to Abruzzo for our arriving guests! ❤️

We’re nearly home… welcome to Abruzzo Borgo! 🇮🇹✨

🌄 A Hazy Morning in Abruzzo 🇮🇹

We’re coming back to Abruzzo Borgo this morning after picking up some of our guests, and as we make our way up the road towards Alanno, just look at the view!

It’s incredibly hazy this morning 🌫️ — normally we can see right across the valley towards the mountains, but today everything in the distance is disappearing behind a soft blanket of haze.

As we climb higher, you can still see the beautiful Abruzzo countryside opening up below us, with the hills fading into layer after layer in the distance. ⛰️🌿

It’s always one of my favourite moments when we bring guests here for the first time — this is their introduction to the landscape surrounding Abruzzo Borgo.

Even on a hazy morning, it’s pretty spectacular! ❤️🇮🇹

🎉 WHAT’S HAPPENING TONIGHT NEAR ABRUZZO BORGO? 🇮🇹

If you’re staying with us and wondering what to do this evening, head over to SCAFA! ❤️💚🤍

This weekend the town comes alive for the Feste Patronali in honour of the Madonna del Carmelo and San Rocco, one of those wonderfully traditional Italian celebrations that makes summer in Abruzzo so special.

✨ TONIGHT — Saturday 29 August

Expect Scafa town centre to be transformed with:

🎡 Luna Park & fairground attractions
🎶 Music and evening entertainment
✨ Festive lights and decorated streets
🍕 Bars, cafés and places to eat
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Families and locals filling the streets
⛪ Traditional celebrations for the town’s patronal festival
🇮🇹 A real taste of an Abruzzese summer evening

The festivities are centred around Piazza Giacomo Matteotti, Piazza Salvo D’Acquisto, Corso 1° Maggio and the streets around the centre of Scafa.

And this isn’t just a one-night event — celebrations continue into the next few days, with the important religious processions taking place on 30 and 31 August.

💡 OUR TIP:
Go after dinner as the town starts filling up and the lights come on. Wander through the streets, stop for a drink or gelato, enjoy the atmosphere and experience the kind of local Italian festival that you rarely find in the tourist guides.

🚗 IMPORTANT: Several streets in central Scafa are closed to traffic for the festivities, so expect to park outside the centre and walk in.

📅 27 August – 2 September 2026

Another beautiful summer tradition happening right on our doorstep. ❤️

Staying at Abruzzo Borgo isn’t just about the pool and the views — it’s also about discovering the little towns, traditions and festas that make this part of Italy so special.
