Part of Relais & Châteaux, the complex is set within luxuriant garden, Giardini di Villa della Pergola, that has been appointed as the most beautiful Garden in Italy and that blends Mediterranean vegetation with various types of rare plants and striking exotic flora. The room “Ruth” is named after Ruth Hanbury, the second wife of Daniel Hanbury, who owned Villa della Pergola from 1922 to 1948.

Ruth occupied this suite for more than forty years, and what is now the bathroom was once her private dressing room, one detail that still connects the room to its past.

And then there is the view: the gardens below, the Gulf of Alassio beyond; from here, another day can feel a little like paradise.

Thomas is dedicated to Sir Thomas Hanbury, the English businessman who created the great botanical garden at Capo Mortola and father of Daniel Hanbury, owner of Villa della Pergola from 1922 to 1948.

His passion for botany found its way to the Villa through Daniel and the Hanbury family, who enriched the Park with exotic species and gave an important early impulse to its botanical story, a legacy that has continued to evolve over the years and is still carefully nurtured by those who care for the Villa today.

From the windows of Thomas, the gardens are already there, with the Gulf of Alassio just beyond.
