Wine tasting! We have been to several different vineyards over the years local to the trullo. Here is a little round up for all our up coming guests!
I Pastini
Our first ever tasting and where our hearts lie is with I Pastini. A short drive from the trullo this family run organic winery runs a lovely tour of the vines, the production areas and a tasting in their cantina. They no longer take you over to their masseria and trullo which is a bit of a shame as it gave a good bit of trullo history but as you had to cross the unmanned level cross of the railway it’s completely understandable!
The wines are across the usual
pugliese range of verdeca, minutolo, susumaniello and primitivo grapes. They are served at the tasting with a range of antipasti. The best way to book is by email from their website and ask for an English tour if required. Last time we went we paid around €20 a head.

Catina Masseria Toricella
A much more recent find for us is Masseria Torricella 15 minutes away the other side of Alberobello set an in expansive landscape this masseria is in a lovely spot. The tour includes some history of the land, a tour through the production plant and into the beautiful maturation area. There wines include the usual grapes plus a home grown Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are all certified organic. The tasting can be taken across different packages to include food pairings of masseria produce which we highly recommend. Wine only tastings start at €15 euros for 3 wines and increase up to €55 to include a full tour 6 wines and paired food with options in between. You can instant book online and can request English speaking where required.

Cantina Mir
Run by a lovely young couple Cantina Mir is based in and around Locorotondo, just 15 minutes from the trullo. You can choose between a tasting in their charming vineyard just outside the town with a farm trullo attached or at their cantina in the centre of Locorotondo with its stylish cellar showcasing their maturation area. A particular wine to try is their newer orange wines on the increase in popularity in the region.
Tasting options include focaccia, olives, taralli cured meat and cheeses.
Bookings are made via WhatsApp from the website and can be conducted in English where required

Masseria Amastoula
By far the most glamorous of all the tastings we have been to Amastoula is an incredible masseria on a hill over looking Taranto. It’s a good 40 minute drive away in Crispiano but well worth the trip. The building and grounds are breathtaking and steeped in history with evidence of its origins found when the masseria was renovated.
The vines have been more recently planted in what was an abandoned olive grove and surround the property.
The wines are again organic and whilst obviously include the pugliese local grapes they are also combined with some more familiar grape varieties such as Merlot Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The tour includes a history of the land as well as a tour through the building showing their maturation barrels and other historic wine making artifacts. The tastings are in a beautiful room and again accompanied with cheese and cured meat pairings.
Wine tastings start at €20 per head and can be booked online once again these can be in English if required, bookings do need to be made a good while in advance in high season.
