We are Brtitish Ski Instructors from Aldershot Hampshire living in the Italian Alps and during the summer monthsthere are an abundance of sports to try....
White water rafting, walking, tennis, padel, golf, horse riding, picnics by lakes, barbeques, outdoor pools surrounded by mountains, organised summer parties throughout the valley, dancing under the stars, wine tasting at wine fairs, see the history of the castles and culture of the valley and visit the beautiful town of Aosta (just 8 minutes from our house), go and visit the St. Bernard dog sanctuary or take a trip to our local animal rescue with all the wild animals from the national park. The locals are wood artisans and make many traditional artifacts, there are art galleries and markets in each village to browse around.
THE AOSTA VALLEY is in the most northern part of Italy. It is surrounded by France, Switzerland and Austria and has some of the HIGHEST MOUNTAINS in Europe. This beautiful and vast valley is a WINE GROWING AREA and is predominantly a farming area keeping its herds of cows in sheds during the winter months and out on the mountain areas during the spring, summer and autumn months. Grapes vines cover the lowlands of the mountains and are harvested and tended by hand usually being harvested in early October when local friends and family groups get together to harvest by hand and celebrate with a party afterwards. In fact during the summer period there are parties all over the valley for whatever is being harvested or made. Apples, potatoes, polenta, you name it, there is a party for it.
SUMMER TEMPERATURE - can be anything from 20 to 40 degrees but if you don't like the heat then you need not worry, you can just go higher up the mountain during the day where it is cooler.DURING THE SUMMER there are an abundance of OUTDOOR SPORTS. Pila in fact has the BIGGEST DOWNHILL MOUNTAINBIKE AREA in Europe. There are also tracks throughout the mountains for biking and of course there is also cycling on the roads.
In our house WE HAVE A 2 BEDROOMED APARTMENT for our guests to stay in which has 2 bathrooms and a large kitchen/lounge/diner. Sleeps 5 comfortably in the bedrooms with a couple of extra beds in the lounge if required. Balconies with views down the valley. Parking. Centrally based for good access to the whole valley and to discover the many valleys off it.
DRIVE from Calais 8.5 hours plus stops. Easy drive on the motorways with plenty of stop off points. Can be done in a day especially with 2 drivers.
FLY to Geneva, Milan (2 hours) or Turin (1 hour) and drive again an easy motorway transfer. OR use public transport - there is a good bus network throughout the valley however, a car would give you freedom to travel anywhere in the valley.
PRICES - for the apartment for a week for a 7 night stay start at £500 - we are happy to take shorter or longer stays. You can also bring your dog if you don't want to leave him at home (please enquire about more information of how to do this)
