This is, in large part, why La Casa Celeste B&B has decided to close its doors for the remainder of 2022. We, like many other businesses in Italy, simply cannot give you the products and services we offer for the same price as last year. As the owner, I am tired of guests leaving lights and air conditioners on all day when they are not in their rooms, despite my repeated requests to please turn them off and help me keep energy consumption low in order to keep nightly rates low… I am tired of guests complaining about value for money, when in fact I have introduced new amenities this year (mini fridge in guest rooms, enterprise Wi-Fi, new game room and home theater, new sunbeds and umbrellas by the pool, new fire pit area, free snacks and cold water, a different cooked breakfast option every morning (unheard of in Italian B&Bs)... I am tired of guests breaking things and leaving me to pay for the repairs… I am tired of the s**t reviews where guests whine about not getting 5 star services but can only afford to pay 3 star prices (go stay at The Four Seasons! Except you can’t afford it! That’s why they cost more!) None of the bars, restaurants, B&Bs, and other small businesses in Italy are raising their prices to get rich. In my case, it’s cheaper for me to close my doors than to continue to host guests… and frankly, I would rather have an empty house and peace of mind than have to listen to one more ridiculous complaint about my prices and “value for money.”
Bars and restaurants in Italy display their gas and electricity bills in public to highlight the reality facing businesses amid a surge in energy prices.
