Through her memories, I discovered a Bellagio of quiet mornings, milk buckets, village walls, family businesses, and generations growing up together. A Bellagio that lives in the people who have cared for it, worked for it and carried its stories forward.

These are the people who make a place feel like home.

Piera was born in Bellagio in 1947.

She remembers a village where everyone walked, where the sound of milk buckets carried through the quiet streets in the morning, and where grandparents sat together on the village walls, arguing about anything and everything.

Today, she is the one telling those stories.

For me, listening to Piera is like being given a glimpse of a Bellagio that I never experienced, but somehow recognise. A place shaped by its people, their families, their work, their laughter, and all the little stories that are passed from one generation to the next.

Perhaps this is what makes a place a place.

The people who remember it. The people who care for it. And the people who keep its stories alive.
