A bit of history! The house was built around 1915 in one of the most beautiful residential areas and street of Bologna, via Audinot, famous for his liberty style villas surrounded by gardens. This area have always been one of the greenest of Bologna. The building was built divided into 2 spec(tac)ular halfs. Commissioned by the two family Berti and Vicenzi (my mother’s family), who are still the original owners and occupiers of the house. Related between each others because the Vicenzi brother and sister married the Berti brother and sister. A big family!
I opened the guesthouse in 2012, after a long summer of works to prepare the house for the new purpose. I tried to change as few things as possible and every small modific tryes to bring the house to his original concept, a house for a big family. We made brand new bathrooms and kitchen. Brought electricity and heaters in the rooms of the second floor and build there a third bathroom. These are just few of the many works of restoration that the house have and will see, but at the beginning the place was much different! As soon as I was finishing working on a room i was renting it. The rentals were monthly and mostly students and workers were living here with me. It looked like a comune and in the busiest days we were sharing the house in 12 to 15 people. I’ll always remember those evenings and dinners all together. Painting, finding the right new furniture, restoring the old one. Trying to do not waste anything, as well as the organization and finding the best set up to be able to manage the whole thing by myself, was a long and difficult work. In many helped me in this never ending process (it’s still going on!) and they know how much I love them. This house brings with her all the signs of the people who lived in it. Starting from my family, my grandfather, that i never met but i constantly feel around me, like my grandmother, my uncle, my friend’s who rented and grew a family here for many years. My friends, my loved ones with who i shared a lot. The laughs, the tears, the struggle, the joy.
