Even its name recalls the cultural setting – in the local dialect "lappa" refers to the spiny shell of chestnuts which woods characterize the area. Profondamente radicato nella tradizione toscana, l'agriturismo Le Lappe conserva anche nel nome l’impronta del contesto culturale in cui si inserisce. Con il termine "lappa" infatti, nella lingua d’uso della zona, si indica il guscio spinoso che ricopre la castagna, frutto che appartiene all’habitat naturale del territorio caratterizzato dai boschi di castagno.

As the weather changes around us at Le Lappe, so does the light. The bright energy of summer gives way to the more soft and atmospheric light of fall. A light which invites lazy mornings spent in bed, or a restful late afternoon in the bath. This moment of the changing seasons is so beautifully captured in these images taken by our friend Chiara Bini a few days ago.

Tuscany is magical in every season, but fall is our favorite. The crowds disappear, the leaves begin to turn a golden yellow, and a renewed energy to explore takes hold. Some of our best activities to indulge in this time of year are horseback riding, truffle hunting, and olive oil tasting. Each a unique memory, all intrinsic to the soul of our estate. Our estate is situated between 500 and 650 meters above sea level. One of the great heralds of winter is the arrival of the mystical fog that blankets the Val d’Arno in the early morning. Le Lappe manages to float just above it, our guests awake, to the feeling of floating above the clouds. With a roaring fire in every bedroom, and a coffee in our sumptuous beds, it is the perfect way to begin a crisp day.

A slight chill in the air heralds the arrival of Fall. What better way to enjoy the cooler temperatures than a long bath in one of our deep soaking tubs?

Located on the first floor of our Torre and centered around a meticulously restored 16th century Roman bed, I Lecci, recalls the ancient roots of the Torre. Walls are hand-painted, in the Tuscan tradition, to mimic local Siena marble. A pair of deep window seats, which flank the wood burning fireplace, are perfect for reading a book while gazing out across the garden. The bathroom, one of our most special, is made of thousands of hand-crafted tiles from Morocco, while the bathtub is made of Italian water-resistant clay, made entirely by hand over a period of two months.

With colder evenings arriving, time for a drink and snacks at our bar and cozy accompanying sitting room, with a roaring fire — the perfect place for a martini surrounded by views of the estate beautifully painted by Assia Pallavicino.

Almost three months to the day since we reopened, and we are so grateful to our guests for a wonderful summer season. As we look ahead to fall, some exciting new developments ahead. At present, we are finalizing our new room service menu, perfect for a romantic evening in front of the wood burning fireplaces found in each of our bedrooms.

At the base of our Torre is the room I Castagni. With ancient walls several feet thick and a vaulted grotto, now repurposed as a very special bathroom, I Castagni recalls the building’s Medieval origins. Two pairs of French doors open out to the garden, with an intimate terrace — a lovely spot for breakfast. Treasured antique furniture, including a 17th century Senese bed from a family home, are complimented by curtains in an embroidered fabric from Carolina Irving

Le Lappe is a celebration of Tuscan craft and tradition. Much of our furniture is centuries old, painstakingly resorted by experts. One of the finest pieces is a Genovese bed, covered in a rare 18th century silk ikat fabric. For six months it was meticulously restored by museum specialists in the hills above Florence, before making its way home to Le Lappe, now the cornerstone of our room, Le Querce.

Thinking ahead to our favorite season, fall. Each of our rooms has at least one wood-burning fireplace, an ideal place to take in the breathtaking scenery of our estate as the trees change color.
