These are the beauties I picked up from the tourist office yesterday. These will be in The Ivy for our guests and I know they will be incredibly useful. One of the reasons people love Abruzzo is because it is unspoiled by tourism - but the downside of this has been a lack of information - discovering it’s secrets takes time. Now it looks like that problem is solved. I’m learning loads from these guides and I’ve been here almost 7 years now. .com

One of Abruzzo’s amazing trabocchi. If you are allergic to shellfish (as I am) and can’t go to a trabocco restaurant to eat, you can still visit this one. Guided tours are just 10 euros. Fantastic value.

If you like cycling, book now because May is less than a month away. May is when Abruzzo hosts the Giro D’Italya and this year is even more exciting than usual.

This year, the 2023 actually starts in Abruzzo on May 6

The loop starts at the Costa dei Trabocchi from Fossacesia Marina to Ortona.

The second stage on Sunday 7 May goes from Teramo to San Salvo. The following day, the caravan will say goodbye to Abruzzo with a stage starting from Vasto heading south before returning to the area on Friday 12 May with the seventh stage ending at the Gran Sasso d'Italia (Campo Imperatore).

So … lots of opportunity!

Coming up to Easter and thoughts are turning to warmer temperatures and longer days. Almost everywhere has a dramatic Easter procession to see. I’ve yet to visit the passion play at Gessopalena - just a few miles away, but I can vouch for the procession in Chieti as being one of the most spine tingling things I’ve yet witnessed. This picture is from Altino a few years ago, before the procession started. This year, I’m torn …. So much to see!
