Alessandro Manzoni (1785-1873) is the author of "The Betrothed" (I Promessi Sposi), the most celebrated Italian novel of all time. Just like Victor Hugo in France or Charles Dickens in England, Manzoni shaped the modern Italian language and soul. He frequently visited Esino Lario with his wife, Teresa, to enjoy the mountain air and the spiritual peace of our village.
