Porta Imperiale, built in 1489 during Venetian rule, was one of the main entrances to the fortified city. Originally called Porta Cormeda, it took its name “Imperial” because, according to tradition, some emperors visiting Feltre passed through there. In 1545 it was renewed in a more elegant and less military style. In 1876 it was also given the name Porta Castaldi, in honor of the Feltre printer Panfilo Castaldi. Today it is the monumental entrance that leads to the historic center via Via Mezzaterra.

From the southern entrance of Feltre we find Porta Oria…

• Porta Oria is one of the ancient access gates to the walled city of Feltre, dating back to the Middle Ages. It was the main entrance from the south, along the road connecting Feltre to Belluno and Venice.
Rebuilt several times —especially after the destruction of 1509 during the wars between the Venetians and the Imperials — the gate still retains its Renaissance appearance today, with coats of arms, inscriptions and a watchtower.
It is one of the historical symbols of the city and the access point to the historic centre of Feltre •

Vi siete mai chiesti quale storia custodisca il Castello di Alboino? 🏰

• Il Castello di Alboino domina Feltre dall’alto del colle sin dall’alto Medioevo. Secondo la leggenda fu fondato dal re longobardo Alboino nel VI secolo, ma le prime testimonianze certe risalgono all’XI secolo. Nato come fortezza difensiva con torri e mura, divenne poi simbolo del potere veneziano, con il Leone di San Marco dipinto sulla facciata. Dopo l’incendio del 1510 venne restaurato e trasformato in residenza nobiliare. Oggi ne restano la torre principale e le mura, testimoni silenziose della storia millenaria di Feltre •
