is a consulting firm based in Italy and founded in 1998. Since 2003 the company has opened a petroleum division that can provide innovative and integrated consulting services for international E&P companies operating in the oil business. From its base in Ferrara, GEPlan Consulting covers the full range of E&P expertise and has been and continues to be involved in several industry-sponsored research projects related to reservoir characterisation. GEPlan is owned by 3 partners and counts of 9 geoscientists with variable experience in the oil business who are keen to use their knowledge and personal skills to find solutions to solve our client’s issues. With over 10 years in the oil industry, GEPlan has gained substantial experience in Europe, in the Mediterranean Sea, in North Africa, North Sea, in the Middle East, in Latin America and in many other regions and sedimentary basins around the world. GEPlan’s projects range from single well studies to full field reservoir static models, and cover a wide spectrum of technical skills in carbonate, clastic and fractured reservoir characterisation and circum-mediterranean oil and gas prospectivity. Our large, multi-disciplinary carbonate and clastic specialist teams are carefully structured so they can provide clear integrated solutions to today's industry challenges. We are thrilled to announce the successful delivery of a comprehensive appraisal project in the Chotts basin, onshore Tunisia! 🌍

As a continuation of a previous campaign run in 2024, this project's primary objective was to effectively characterise the thin sub-Hercynian sandstone reservoir, reconstruct its depositional architecture, and assess regional geological trends. 🎯

What we did..
Our team conducted a fully integrated geological assessment, combining observations from multiple scales. We processed and interpreted acoustic borehole images, integrating them with conventional wireline logs, core data, and 3D seismic volumes. By extracting and analysing advanced seismic attributes like spectral decomposition, we were able to detect subtle lateral variations and stratigraphic discontinuities. 📊🔍
.the Results
The integrated analysis successfully identified the reservoir as a sand-prone, multi-channel fluvial system with braided-channel affinities. We were able to distinguish original depositional variability from subsequent erosional preservation beneath the Hercynian unconformity, ultimately delivering a robust 3D conceptual depositional model to guide future characterization activities. 💡📈

Tackling highly altered silicified carbonates demands more than just standard logging - it requires a rigorous, multi-faceted integration strategy. ⚒️

We are embarking on a complex, multi-well interpretation campaign in a reservoir marked by heavy structural and diagenetic modifications in offshore Brazil🌎. To capture the full subsurface picture, we are executing a joint interpretation of both resistivity and acoustic borehole images, integrated with a full suite of conventional logs, structural data, and sidewall cores. 💡

Our Core Objectives:
✅ Build a robust, heavily quality-controlled image database across up to 6 wells.

📐 Characterize structural bedding, tilt, fractures, faults, and unconformities.

🕵 Define image facies and interpret complex sedimentological and diagenetic features.

📢 We are pleased to announce the publication of our latest regional basin study: “Structural Settings, Stratigraphic Framework and Hydrocarbon Play Components of the Pelagian & Sirte Region”.

🌍 Covering the geological domain from offshore Sicily and the Malta–Sicily Channel to offshore Tunisia, Libya, the onshore Sirte Basin, and Cyrenaica, the study provides an integrated regional framework spanning both mature, prolific producing basins and underexplored frontier plays across one of the most structurally complex areas of the Central Mediterranean.

📚 The study comprises 3 dedicated volumes, for a total of:

- 517 pages

- 373 figures

- 144 wells available in digital format

- 9 Gross Depositional Environment (GDE) maps

- GIS-ready datasets, regional maps, stratigraphic panels, well correlations, reservoir and source-rock distribution maps, and petroleum-system summary tables

🧭 Volume 1 – Tectonic Evolution & Present-Day Structural Setting 133 pages and 101 figures focused on tectonic domains, structural evolution, present-day tectono-stratigraphic configuration, gravity, magnetics, heat flow, seismicity, and regional stress fields.

🗺️ Volume 2 – Stratigraphic Framework 225 pages and 135 figures covering the Lower Cretaceous to post-Messinian succession through 11 regional stratigraphic sequences, integrating stratigraphic charts and selected GDE maps across the Pelagian, Sabratah, Sirte, and Cyrenaica domains.

🛢️ Volume 3 – Hydrocarbon Prospectivity 159 pages and 137 figures dedicated to reservoirs, source rocks, oil types and provenance, migration pathways, seals, trap styles, petroleum-system evolution, hydrocarbon complexes, and regional play fairways.

🔎 By integrating structural evolution, depositional systems, and petroleum-system elements - from previously unmapped structural trends and a revised source-rock maturity picture to newly resolved play concepts - the study provides a consistent regional framework to support exploration screening, play-based evaluation, and future exploration strategies across the Pelagian-Sirte basin system.

🌍 GEPlan expands its international experience in Pakistan!

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of two exploration projects in Pakistan, adding a new country to GEPlan’s global track record.

Our team delivered two studies in highly prospective and geologically complex areas: the Sulaiman Fold-Thrust Belt and the Kharan Forearc Basin.

In the Sulaiman Range, GEPlan, in collaboration with local and international partners, successfully carried out a comprehensive integrated study including stratigraphy, biostratigraphy, paleoenvironmental analysis, structural and tectonic interpretation, and petroleum play element assessment.

In the Kharan Basin, we performed a prospect-building study based on well data and 2D/3D seismic interpretation, including resource calculation, exploration risk assessment, and technical evaluation of potential exploration wells within clastic and carbonate successions.

🤝 It was a great opportunity to meet new colleagues in Pakistan, share knowledge, exchange technical views, and work together in a proactive and collaborative way toward the successful achievement of the project objectives.

And we are not done yet… something new may be landing soon! 🚀

Last week, our office hosted a productive 5-day intensive workshop with our colleagues from Pakistan Petroleum Limited and Primera Resources! 🤝🏢

The focus was a comprehensive review of an ongoing hydrocarbon prospectivity integrated subsurface study 📚 . It was a fantastic opportunity to:

✅ Validate interim results and align on methodologies across geological, geophysical, petrophysical, and reservoir engineering disciplines.

✅ Jointly interpret data, challenge alternative play scenarios, and calibrate volumetric and risk assumptions.

✅ Ensure seamless alignment on workflows and next steps for final prospect evaluation.

Beyond the technical work, this was a valuable knowledge-sharing session 👏. We explored a new region together, combining the PPL team's local knowledge of the area and leveraging global analogues from the GEPlan and Primera teams to explain complex geological scenarios. 🌍🔬

📢 Houston, we share knowledge…! 📢 Houston, we share knowledge…! 🚀 Last week, our team spent an inspiring week in Houston, leading a workshop focused on petroleum play types and distribution in the Mediterranean region - particularly the Central Mediterranean sector (from the North Adriatic Sea to Southern Crete) and North Africa 🌍 .
It was an exciting five-day session with an incredibly engaged group 🙂. We explored over 6 million square kilometers 🤪 , diving into the stratigraphic and tectonic evolution of the region 🏔️ , distribution of petroleum system components, and the extent of key play types. Our discussions were supported by both surface and subsurface data, enriched with outcrop analogues 💪 .
This workshop was a fantastic opportunity to share two decades’ worth of insights and ideas gained through our work across the Mediterranean 🙌 . Collaborating with a highly experienced group of geologists, we enjoyed a deep and holistic geological immersion into the hydrocarbon potential of the region 🤝 .
